Its actually an entirely different boot animation with a little android on it. The M logo is inaccessible without changing some original system imgs.

I would suggest putting this (and any other bootanimation.zip) into the data/local location. Placing and/or replacing the bootanimation.zip at the system/media location is not recommended. Just a quick lesson:

1: The system stock boot animation resides at system/media/bootanimation.zip - you should NEVER delete or replace this file.
2: The system ALTERNATIVE boot animation resides at data/local/bootanimation.zip ("bootanimation.zip" is optional - it does not exist unless you place it there)
3: When the system boots, it checks for the file "data/local/bootanimation.zip" first. If the file "data/local/bootanimation.zip" does no exist, it loads the file system/media/bootanimation.zip

Logically, it is the accepted practice to place non-oem boot animations at "data/local/". Forum member fish1552 wrote an excellent guide on installations: Make Your Own Boot Animations (follow "Installing & Testing")

Update: I just fully read your instructions serpico, gonna give it a shot. Thanks in advance!

When I go to data/local/ there is nothing in there other than an empty TMP folder. If someone can help me find it I'll just restore the backup I made of the bootanimation.zip and restore it in the /system/media/ folder.

That is all you will see in that folder initially. Just paste the zip file there and it will check that location first and if nothing is found, it defaults to the /system/media folder. I'll post a link from my laptop in a bit to another boot aanimation (BA) thread that includes a link for the default BA.

The reason you NEVER want to use /system/media is because if you have a bad download and get stuck in a booot loop (I've had it happen when testing mine), you can use ADB to pull the bad file off your device and let it default back to /system/media without needing to restore your Xoom or deleting data & boot to get back in. Or without having to restore a backup (if rooted).

What is rooting: the advantages/disadvantages | Set-up ADB | Need Help? Post Here | ADB Commands for Newcomers | Boot Animation Requests

I know what you mean, new boot animations are about the only reason mine ever gets shut down these days.
