doing my first conversion METALLICA videos says it will take 2hours so I'm going to crash and wake up to a converted video I hope. Seems easy enough and took your advice about the app to convert mp4 to dvd so I now have best of both worlds thanks

I love this app except for 1 thing...
when i convert a 900mb file it comes out as a 2.7GB, and is very small 608x272. Why is the file so large?

    thank you.

if you convert non hd content using a hq or even a 1080 profile is overkill.

just select the standard xoom profile.

It looks like you "updated" from the (newer) Beta to the latest "Official" release, and something didn't go completely well with the install.

Don't start a conversion, and go into Global > Version info and tap on the Beta button to download the latest Beta again (rc2)

Just bought it, so far I love it though the .AVI file and the .MPG file I converted with it turned out larger than the original file. Great quality though and easy though time consuming. Thanks!

Downloaded the program last night and I am very impressed with it. A task that seems so daunting at first made very easy by a few clicks. Had a few problems uploading to my Xoom but that was because my Windows Media Player needed updating. Kudos on a great program sir!

One question: would buying a new dvd optical drive reader make the conversion process any quicker or is it purely a processor issue?

    Thanks in advance.

The profiles in DVD Catalyst are "bitrate" based, in order to stay compatible with the Xoom. Your video files are likely encoded using a lower bitrate than that of what is set in the Xoom profile you used.
In "Modify" you can lower the video bitrate to end up with similar-sized video files. If you have your video files already added to DVD Catalyst, the estimated filesize is displayed to make it easier.

    Thank you MrPeers,

The drive does affect the speed, but it is mostly processor based.
If you are using a quad-core, update to the latest Beta (RC3) which makes better use of all the processor-cores.

I use an i7 laptop for development and my own conversions, and use 2 external drives, 1 bluray (LG) and 1 dvd burner (hp), and when I use the dvd drive, my conversion speed goes up by 1x (from 6.5x realtime to 7.5x realtime when using the same movie DVD)

Very impressed with DVD Catalyst 4 so far - 3 days in and have already done a bunch of DVD conversions for the Xoom.

I have been having trouble with my La Dolce Vita DVD though - I've used the standard xoom setting as well as the xoom fast setting and haven't been able to get an mp4 which the xoom will play (a message comes up in Gallery stating that the video cannot be played). Have been using the default settings so haven't messed with any parameters. Interestingly, my Windows Media Player also refuses to play the resulting mp4 file from this DVD, however it will play everything else I've produced from DVD Cat so far (6 or so other DVDs).

Would appreciate any advice on how to get this DVD rip working - this movie is a bit of a must-have for me on the Xoom!

Edit: Note that I enabled Subtitles for this conversion - so not 100% default I guess ....
