dvd catalyst 4 crashes on conversion

Scans 1-5 conversion starts then mencoder crashes. Tried beta, still crashes, tries turning off the booster back, failed, tried in safe mode, fail again.

Using win 7 with dual core and laptop, CD player supports dual layer.

Have you tried more than one DVD? Tried uninstallling and reinstall? There are many successful and happy users of the software on this forum and also the developer - suggest you PM him - his forum name is DVDCatalyst

    Hi Medic,

Did you change any settings other than selecting your Xoom profile, including the output folder location?

Based on your description, it could be related to that, or, an application might cause conflicts.

Certain programs/codecs install so-called helper applications that try to jump in and help when a file is accessed that it supports. The DIVX codec is one.

If you have DIVX installed, check in start > programs > DIVX for its configuration utility (might also be located in your Control Panel)
In there, go to the advanced tab, and turn off "deinterlace"

If you do not have DIVX installed, try starting your computer in Windows-Safe mode, and see if that makes a difference. In most cases, these "helpers" do not start then.

can you try Xoom (fast) as a profile, and see if that makes a difference?

There are issues with 1 particular AMD processor and certain MP4 formats, and my guess is that you happen to have that one. The "fast" profile should work in this case.

Actually the Athlon II Dual Core P-series:

The beta fixes this issue as well for the normal profiles.
