DVD Catalyst 4 v4.1 RC2 Release Notes
DVD Catalyst 4 v4.1 RC2 Release Notes | DVD Catalyst 4, the ultimate app for movies & tv on the go

While working on getting 4.1 finalized, I stumbled upon a pretty major bug regarding some newly added tablet profiles. Since most of the new 10″ tablets are basically identical in specifications as the Motorola Xoom, the profiles for these tablets are duplicate profiles with a different name. Unfortunately with the renaming of the profiles, the conversion format name tied to these profiles also got partially renamed, causing complications with basically all the non-Xoom Tegra2 tablet profiles. This has been fixed in this version.
New:
New device profiles added: New and upcoming devices such as the Droid X2, Droid 3, iPhone 4s, EVO 3D and more now have profiles in DVD Catalyst 4.
The current official version, DVD Catalyst 4 v4.0.2.7 counts 718 different device profiles, DVD Catalyst 4.1 RC1 has 785 unique profiles, and RC2 includes over 850 different device profiles. It may not look like much of a difference, but keep in mind that most similar apps don’t even have more than 50 different device profiles.
MovieGallery IMG: Next to where you can change the name of the DVD/Video file that DVD Catalyst creates,

Tapping this will open up your webbrowser to Albumart - CD and DVD cover searchengine, a website that provides cover images for music cds and movies. The IMG button builds a search based on the name of the DVD displayed here, so the website will show the images available for the video.

Note that the images are not always perfectly cropped, so you might have to edit them a bit in order to get the best look for MovieGallery. Besides using them with our own MovieGallery app for Android, you can use the images with MetaX as well to embed them as coverart in MP4 files to be used with Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices. More info on MetaX can be found here: MP4 file tags / What is MetaX? | DVD Catalyst 4, the ultimate app for movies & tv on the go
File history: A little-known feature of DVD Catalyst received some love this time. Most of DVD Catalyst users barely touch the surface of its capabilities. Of course in its default mode, it works as a 1-click DVD and video conversion tool, but don’t be fooled. Many people, including some professional reviewers seriously underestimate the capabilities of DVD Catalyst 4. We don’t call DVD Catalyst 4 “the most powerful conversion tool on the planet” for nothing.
One of the features in DVD Catalyst 4 that puts it in the “most powerful” category is its capability of folder-monitoring. The main idea behind DVD Catalyst 4 is to eliminate as many clicks as possible for doing repetitive tasks. Pretty much everything you do with DVD Catalyst can be remembered, and reloaded the next time it starts, so if you set it up once, it will continue to do its work with the settings you used before. With folder-monitoring, you can tell DVD Catalyst to look at a recordings-folder from a TV/Media Center app, or maybe if you use video applications, you can tell DVD Catalyst to look for video files in the export-location for your projects, and have it convert them for you automatically. In addition to that, it of course has the capability to remember what video files it already converted so it will not convert them again.

When this feature was first implemented, about 3 years ago with DVD Catalyst 3.0, all devices only had one profile. Over the years since, we added (fast) and HQ profiles for most of the popular devices to give people an easy choice, however, because the monitor-files portion looks at the file and the profile that was used for the conversion, switching from a standard to a HQ profile results in the file being converted again. The changes we made this time will let you mark files to be skipped regardless of what profile was used. In addition, we added some new options in case you move DVD Catalyst to a new computer so that it doesn’t convert all the files again. When we have some extra time, we’ll write a detailed guide on how to use this feature, but it is pretty straight-forward. You can find the settings in Global Settings (enable power user mode) Automation.
Since we are finalizing 4.1 to an official release, our main focus at this time is on fixing some bugs, rather than implementing new features.
To update to DVD Catalyst 4 v4.1 RC1, enable “Power User”, then in Global Settings > Version info, click on the Beta button.
If you run into complications, please perform the following (the best way to reset DVD Catalyst 4 to its defaults):
* Make sure DVD Catalyst is not running
*Click on “START” > “RUN” (or hold down the windows-key on your keyboard and tap the “R” key)
*In the run dialog, type in:
%appdata%
and click OK
*delete the “DVD Catalyst 4″ folder
This will reset DVD Catalyst to it’s defaults, and will take care of most possible issues.
If you run into any complications that the above procedure doesn’t solve, or have any comments, suggestions or requests, feel free to contact me by email at dvdcatalyst@gmail.com
