    External Harddrive for EOS Xoom

    Hi guys

Just wondering if i could get some advice on purchasing an external hard drive for my wifi xoom.
My xoom is rooted and currently running the latest rom from team EOS with ICS.

I have no idea which perticular external hard drive works with this rom or what
kind of external hard drive i should be purchasing.

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks

Yes, he is referring to the Motorola Camera Connection Kit. But, save yourself some money and do not buy it from Moto. The cable you need is called an OTG (On The Go). Search Ebay, or this forum for OTG and there is probably a link.

The first one I bought, I contacted the seller, overseas, and asked about a longer cable. He told me the length available and to buy the one on the auction and request the longer one, I forget how. It took 7-10 days, but the longer cable showed up and works perfectly.

Recently I ran across another OTG cable that has a right angle connector on the micro usb end, xoom end. When I looked at the various offerings, I decided on one of the high rated sellers, then scrolled down the page to find an auction not closing for a week or so and was for quantity two cables. Same seller, same cable, shipped from same country, but a couple of bucks cheaper. In the photos of the cables you can see there are two offerings, one with a thinner looking cable and one with a thicker looking cable. I am sure it is just the size of the outside insulation, but I went with the thicker one. Arrived as stated and both worked perfectly.

As far as the brands of usb thumb drives, I only have OCZ and they work, 4 and 8 GB. I have heard of external HDDs working, but they must be self powered. Generally the drive must be formatted fat 32, but I have seen several use a drive mount app that allows NTFS and a few others.

    Hope this helps, Chris.

By saying self powered i thought you meant a external hard drive thats powered by usb for some reason!lol. got the otg and an external 320gb hard drive thats powered by usb. Realising that tbhe xoom does not provide enough power for the drive to function properly i sat and messed on half the day but have managed to get it working flawlessly, first of by converting the partition to fat 32 then using a usb lead that has 2 connection, 1 for 1.1 usb and 1 for 2.0 usb the 1.1 usb connection i plugged into my iphone usb charger which gives the hard drive enough power then pluggin the 2.0 lead into the xoom and its worked fantastic. i dont even need to keep it plugged into a mains outlet as once the harddriv powers up it no longer needs the main outlet power. The xoom continues to power it through the usb haha

Just for future reference, WD HDD's work fine under USB power with only the OTG cable and male USB to male mini USB.

I have a 320g WD external HDD that works flawlessly.

I can just imagine, a 32 gig xoom, with a 64 gig micro SD, + a 320 gig external drive. LOL. WOW, Hey Apple, what's the most storage on your iPads??????
    I'm just sayin.
