    You don't have to but it's much better, they are having issues with the size of the system partition and if you don't wipe your system partition you likely will have some problems. The recommended upgrade procedure coming from ICS or any other rom is:
    Wipe cache
    Wipe dalvik
    Wipe data
    Format /system. (Under the mounts menu)
    Flash the nightly
    Flash gapps
    And you want to use the EOS signed gapps, Goo.im Downloads - Downloading gapps-jb-20120726-eos-signed.zip.

    Changes:
    Removed Gmail (download it from the market)
    Fixed face unlock (Non Tegra2 devices only) - thanks runandhide05
    Fixed hotword detection - thanks runandhide05
    Added back GmsCore that was accidentally removed.
