Rooting Jellybean 4.1.1 OTA.

You need to use the cable that came with the Xoom and USB Debugging needs to be enabled. Menu>settings>developer options>usb debugging.

Cable came in the mail today and first thing I did was connect it to the Xoom and my laptop. Regardless, I still cannot enable usb debugging. All the options under "Developer Options" are disabled. I was hoping that having the right cable attached would make the difference.

Anyone have an idea of how to get around this?

What rom are you running or is it stock? I've never seen the usb debugging options disabled.

Try a soft reboot and see if the developer option are enabled. Mean while I'm trying to get some more information from another source, will post back when I get an answer.

Did a soft reboot but no change. I'm going to make a backup and will consider a factory reset unless I hear from you with another idea. Thanks, by the way! I appreciate your help.

Up on the top right of that screen is an icon for you to enable the developer options!

Never noticed the either, mine have always been enabled by default even when I was stock.

Well, I'm still at it and haven't made much progress. I'm getting confused me thinks Here's what I've done and where I get stopped:

- USB Debugging is enabled
- Have the right cable and attached to my laptop
- adb devices shows my device
- Downloaded update_US-Xoom-WiFi-4.1.1-JRO03H_stachre_v01.zip and copied it to the SD card
- I don't yet have CWM so off to follow the instructions at [Recovery] ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4c) Modded for Internal media [UPDATED 10/6] - xda-developers
- Since I don't already have CWM, I'm using "Method 2 without CWM"
- Did adb reboot bootloader (Xoom says "Starting Fastboot protocol support.")
- Did fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
--- Xoom says "Device still locked. Device must be unlocked first."
--- DOS command window says "Writing 'recovery'... FAILED <remote: <00000008>>

If feel like I'm in a chicken-and-egg loop. I need CWM in order to load the unlocked JRO03H package but I need to be unlocked to load CWM.

Starting to feel like a real dummy over this. I've rooted before (Honeycomb) and worked like a charm. Went stock for ICS.

I've been at the Dr and will have to leave in a few minutes. Use Astrix's thread to flash your recovery then do method 1.

I believe you can flash the recovery but not root by Astrix's guide. If you have problems you can PM Tedster, he's done this a time or two.
