hi i am interested in learning a lot more about android and modding so maybe one day i can contribute more. my ignorance becomes apparent when i dont appreciate the importance of the above. was wondering if u can recommend any books or sites for me to puruse so as to get me started. thx

Download this file (right click and save as, save it wherever you keep adb).

    Type all of this:
    1. adb shell
    2. su
    3. mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
    4. exit
    5. adb push local.prop /data/
    6. adb reboot
    7. adb remount (once the reboot is complete)

That should get it going. I've sent my local.prop to Dan Rosenberg, hopefully he'll include it in his root method.
The download link does not work.

What great thing, just followed the instructions from Dan on his Blog and everything is working smoothly. 5 Minutes = Root .
Best I've ever seen... plain dead simple.

Now off to explore the Options with a rooted Droid...
    Cheers

It's basically for if you ever wanted to push files to system. You can't do that if you can't remount. It also allows you to get a full / pull. I'll be doing that today (and cleaning out any personal data).

Dan told me that he doesn't leave that open so that the more inexperienced users won't mess anything up inadvertently.
