[HOW TO] Motorola Xoom 2 Root Method by Dan Rosenberg

Root Method for Motorola Xoom 2/Xyboard
    By Dan Rosenberg

Motorola Xoom 2/Xyboard users I present you the Root Method made by Dan Rosenberg. Follow the method below and you will be fine! Reported to work with Xoom 2 & Xyboard before the OTA and after.

    Root Method
    1. Download the Windows version here, or the Linux/OSX version here.

    2. Your Computer must have Motorola Drivers installed before rooting and connect your device with debugging on to your computer via USB. (Mac Users don't need drivers)

    3. Extract the zip file from the download link, and run “run.bat” (on Windows) or “run.sh” from a terminal (on Linux/OSX)

    4. Your device should reboot a few times during the process, don't worry.

    5. Then you should get a finished message on the Root Method Window. At this point your device is safe to be removed from the computer.

    6. Well Done! You have root. Enjoy root and be safe.

Ways to brick your very expensive Xoom2/Xyboard tablet (I have seen a lot of people on the internet do most of the below! -

    • Do not try and flash Original Xoom Clockwork
    • Do not edit anything in build prop!
    • Do not flash any Original Xoom ROM's
    • Do not delete the Launcher2 or try and replace it. You can only freeze.
    • Do not use any bootstrap from any other Motorola Device.

    What you can do -

Complain to Motorola about the bootloader by tweeting "Unlock the bootloader on the Xoom2/Xyboard now! #motofail"

I've noticed I can't remount using adb. I changed the all_adb option in /data/local.prop to 1, but I'm not home to test it. Anyone want to give it a try? You'll have to manually remount to be able to modify the file.

Alright, tested it, it worked. Here's the process:

Download this file (right click and save as, save it wherever you keep adb).

    Type all of this:
    1. adb shell
    2. su
    3. mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
    4. exit
    5. adb push local.prop /data/
    6. adb reboot
    7. adb remount (once the reboot is complete)

That should get it going. I've sent my local.prop to Dan Rosenberg, hopefully he'll include it in his root method.
