And it doesn't play nice with Linux...

But these are still the same USB cables as used by smartphones? Certainly same as my HTC phone?

It depends. If you just want to charge it, a standard USB will work, but not amazingly well for some reason. If you want to transfer files, yes it will work - as long as your computer acknowledges it. (As I said, it doesn't on Linux) If you want to attach outside media (flash drive etc) you'll need a USB OTG cable, which lets the Xoom act as host. They're cheap off amazon or eBay.

    Thanks everyone!

The box was sealed so I assumed it included everything, but I wanted to make sure.

A lot of manufacturers like cutting corners by leaving out cheap cables. I know they're not expensive, but it's much more useful and convenient having what you need in the box, especially when it's a cable that probably cost the company pennies overall.

With the Xoom series, I think Motorola cut a lot of corners due to their mindset that everything would be wireless/cloud based. Hence the 16gb versions, the lack of cables, and the motocast software. They intended for most users to stream/store everything on a seperate PC or cloud.

They even cut the corners from the housing itself!

Anyway, no USB cable, no HDMI cable, no USB OTG cable with mine either.
