    Question Car Dock Options

I'm thinking of using a Proclips mount I have, mounting a Ram-Mounts arm to it (similar to this: Mount - C Arm with 2.5 Inch Round Base and Diamond Adaptor - RAM Mount (U)) and screwing a Motorola standard dock to the plate on the ram arm so I don't have to plug in power and audio when I am using it in the car, it will all be hard wired from the moto dock... Any thoughts on this? I don't have the moto dock yet, how well does it hold the xoom, would I have to add something to make it more stable?

I am looking at car dock options too, especially for my motorhome navigation and music on the road. What are the favorites you use and ones to avoid?

@rshelton: I think you may have the standard and HD docks mixed up. The HD dock has the speakers on the back, which are fine by themselves. But if you want to push the sound through your vehicle speakers, you'll still need an audio cable for an auxiliary port on your radio.
As far as stability, the dock is short and the bouncing of vehicles on the road would be very insecure IMO. I can bump the device on the desk and it is hit or miss as to whether I need to catch it or not sometimes. It's not as well seated like the Droid or Droid X docks. Size of device to size of the plugs don't mix well to being mobile and stable in the dock. If you figured out a way to maybe velcro it in, I'm sure you'd be fine though.

There are other options posted here in the forums about docks that are *much* more secure and stable for vehicles. The device sits in them completely and would be a far better option IMO. Especially for the price we paid for these things. No sense in having them go crashing to the floorboard or worse yet, into a shifter knob, hand brake or coffee cup and shatter the screens.

Not a true dock, but these mounts have held my Xoom at 80 mph on the motorcycle without any issues.

I'm looking to do some sort of a drop in option that is a dock... I have an otter box on it, and want to have audio and power hard wired. I'm planning on getting the standard dock, and modifying it so it has some sort of arms that will fit around the otterbox and hold it in place on the dock. The dock will then be mounted on a ram arm. I'll post pics when I get working on it. All the premade in car dock options I've seen wont work with the otterbox, but a standard dock does...

This is the most stable mount for a xoom I have found.

I KNOW you will have to BEEF IT UP! don't get a suction cup type mount for your xoom! Its a long drop for your xoom when you loose suction! (and you will) The xoom is MUCH too heavy and EXPENCIVE for such a mount! (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR) My mount is BOLTED to the metal frame behind my dash panel MUCH more secure. GOOD LUCK with your $10.79 decision.

Sorry to scare everyone. I never use suctions cups, I screw them down to a mount on the dash. Besides using suction cups on your windshield is illegal in some states, like California. This mount may be fine for a motorhome, maybe not but like stated above, you get what you pay for.
