Ran in to this on a tech blog site. It is similar to amazon free app of the day but instead has tons of free paid Apps. This is not an illegal site that is pirating the Apps like applanet and a few others are doing.

Their about us page doesn't say anything about paid apps:
GetJar is the world’s largest free app store with over 2 billion downloads to date. The company distributes more than 150,000 mobile applications across a variety of operating systems including Android, Blackberry, Java, Symbian and Mobile Web. In 2010, GetJar was named a Technology Pioneer Award Winner by the World Economic Forum and listed by TIME magazine as One of the 10 companies that will change your life. GetJar is headquarted in Silicon Valley with offices in the UK and Lithuania. For more information, please visit www.getjar.com and follow us @GetJar.
Most of the free paid apps aren't worth getting.

They do have some Android Market paid apps in there for free. As of the other day, they were posted up under "GetJar Gold". I have a few emails out asking devs if they consented to the paid apps being offered for free. Hopefully they respond and we can get a final clarification.

I am unsure how they offer paid Apps for free but I assume it is in the same setup as the amazon market. Although I have not been able to download any Apps yet due to the way it is setup. I did notice they have "sponsored" Apps which may accounted being able to offer some paid Apps for free.
There are quite a few reviews on this site and the company which is based in the USA. I have yet to find any negative comments or suggestions that they are distributing illegal Apps or games.
If you had gone to their about us page there are many links explaining the company. The following link sort of explains how they can offer paid Apps for free.

Looking all through the site it appears "gold" is just used as a category and not for a subscription service for users. It also appears it may be a service for developers to sign up with to offer their apps for free but still get paid by some sort of revenue gained from getjabs advertisers on their site.
I've never been able to get an app either, says something about a link at the bottom of the screen and there's never a link. Tried on the Xoom and on my phone with no luck.
