    Apple Lossless (alac) player?

I have a lot of alac files on my macbook and would rather not convert them all to mp3 with ffmpeg for use on the Xoom.

The Andless player did not seem to work. It just starts with blank screen and there appears to be no way to select a file or create a playlist.

Is there something that adds this codec into the Google Music player. Or another player that plays both?

You don't want lossless on your phone/tablet I don't think. Convert them to m4a or mp3 with Streamclip or whatever.

Actually, I do want lossless. Xoom has 32GB which is a lot of storage plus micro SD cards are cheap. mp3 was amazing
in 1998 when you had a 5GB hard drive, which would hold about 10-15 CDs uncompressed or 100+ mp3 compressed. Now that terabyte drives and
many 10s of GB flash devices are becoming cheap and common, why settle for lossy compression? Because Apple and
Google seem to be pushing people that way, with their cloud BS?

I listen to a lot of classical and new age music, typically in a quiet room, and can hear the difference. I have a
decent quality set of headphones, Grado SR-60, and it is shocking how bad lossy audio sounds compared to
lossless encoded from the same CD. (Most of my music I own on CDs. Lately, ye olde CDs are turning out to be cheaper than junky amazon, iTunes, wherever mp3s.)

Also, it is a pain to keep two copies of my music collection: I already have lots of alac.

btw, you can't tell the difference from aac and alac from the filename extension: both end in .mp4.

    PLAYABLE FORMATS
    AAC , AAC+ , AAC+ Enhanced , AMR NB , H.263 , H.264 , MIDI , MP3 , MPEG-4 , O

Those are the formats Xoom plays. Your question may work better on a apple forum. There may be a player for that format, none that I've ran across through posts here. But theres a lot of posts here and I've not personally gone through everyone. There may be someone else here with the same situation.

I'd settle for making andless work. I think I might be missing something obvious about the UI--at least obvious to a more experienced Android user.

What is the source of this? In which player? Google says here that Music Player crappifies--meaning converts to mp3--flac lossless files.

I'm kind of surprised that Play Music does this. Converting to a lossy format from any lossless format is a one way process; there is no going back to the original quality because data is being discarded.
