    m4a ( Mpeg-4 Audio ) support problems

At one point, iTunes "Strongly Encouraged" I use this format for my music files.

Now I have a problem in that this format is not on ( or does not appear to be on ) the list of supported file formats for the Xoom USB device. It isn't supported by the default player but I am using Songbird which does support it. Manually copying the files works fine and they play OK in Songbird but when I try to use the Sync functionality of Songbird, it tries to convert them all to a supported format due to the lack of m4a in the supported list (such is my theory). Really, Songbird should have added m4a to the list of supported devices when it was installed OR the Xoom folks should not have assumed that only it's default player would ever be used.

Question: How can I manually add the m4a format to the list of supported formats?

I'm unsure of the answer or any recommendation but I'm going to move this to audio where it will get more views.

Not sure of the answer either. I use iSyncer and it works great playing my iTunes music on the Xoom.

Another thought is that your Amazon MP3 cloud player will play m4a files if you upload them to your cloud drive. It wont play m4p files which I think is an older form of Apple DRM.

Pro Tip: Upload all your music to a cloud drive, BLOW UP iTunes, buy mp3's from Amazon Mp3. Way more versitile
