    Disabling System Updates (OTA) Rooted Users

    Instructions Found by DS36 from xdadevelopers and linked here by our own liz210

    Computer Steps:
    1. Enable Xoom’s "USB Debugging" (Settings > Applications > Development)
    2. Plug in the Xoom via USB
    3. Go to the “android sdk” folder, hold down “Shift” key and “Right” click on the folder.
    4. Select "Open Command Window Here"

    PRESS ENTER AFTER TYPING EACH LINE BELOW:

    adb shell

    $ su

    # mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system

    # cd /etc/security

    # mv otacerts.zip otacerts.zip.bak

    # exit

    exit

    Reboot and your done

    Interesting... To shut mine up I just changed the build.prop .. You don't have to download anything for this method?

    Do you need to be rooted or does this work for stock Xooms as well?

    You should just have adb installed on your computer..oh and the drivers as well

    Stock users should need this. An OTA for stock non-rooted users is fine.

    I already knew this solution; however, the only thing you make here is to move the certificates of OTA validation to other file (the ".bak"). So, when your Xoom download an OTA update, it will check for its validation through the certificates; it will not find them (because you moved them to the ".bak"), so it will discard the downloaded file. This ensured you will never see the OTA's popup, however, the Xoom will stay trying to download the OTA update again, and again, and again... That means you will always have some network traffic here.

    Yes this is for rooted users, stock users can accept the OTA.

    Droid-Xer @ tabletroms as mentioned that you can also disable using "Root Explorer".

    Go to: /system/etc/security and rename the zip from there.
