    Thank you

Just wanted to say THANKS for the root guide. Followed it for my wifi Xoom and went very smoothly. The only step that didn't match up word for word was the need to type "fastboot reboot" in the command window after the fastboot unlock as mine rebooted automatically.

The link for Universal Xoom Root is still down, but a quick Google search led me to a copy on androidfilehost.com.

    But again, thank you.

If you want a 2nd life for your XOOM try any of next threads:

[ROM][4.4.2] OmniROM - Wingray - bigPart - xda-developers For OmniROM with OTA update; or:

[ROM][4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 - Wingray Stingray Everest - bigPart - xda-developers For CyanogenMod OTA update too.

After finish the BIGPART process, do ot install any image, just do it:

    • Flash cm-11-201XXXXX-UNOFFICIAL-wingray.zip
    • Flash gapps-xxxx.zip
    • Reboot
It apply for both ROMs, Omni room need SUroot update, Cyanogenmod includ it at the ROM.
Both above no nedd additional feature for Kernel, but some fine tunnig instead like this:

    • Overclock to 1.4Ghz (Performance menu)
    • Decrease animation duration to .5 (Developer options menu)

Previously you need to reactivate the Developer option as follow:
    • Show Developer and Performance settings
      • Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Tap it.
      • Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
      • Tap it seven (7) times, and *poof*, you've got the developer settings back.
Both threads are very well documented
    Good Luck!!

Thanks for the advice, but I had actually already found and performed the OmniROM 4.4.2 install. Working very well, glad I finally decided to make some changes.

A new tips to use OTA update has been published:

Just put what you want to flash after the OTA ROM (eg. gapps and/or SuperSU and/or one of my scripts) into the <internal sdcard>/OpenDelta/FlashAfterUpdate directory.
Rename them starting with a number if you wan't a specific order, eg :

    Code:

    01-gapps-4.4.2.zip
    02-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
    03-wingray-phone-remove-4.4.2.zip

The OTA will be applied, all packages in FlashAfterUpdate just after (in order) and the Xoom will reboot without any human interaction.

    Phone remover scripts :
    V2 (will remove exchange !)

    V3 (won't remove exchange)
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=252

    Good news

Welcome to the forum. If you rooted your Xoom the way to update is to flash a rom. If you accept an OTA update you will mess up your Xoom.

So I followed this guide (and besides having to spend a lot of time looking for the correct files b/c this thread is so old) I think I was successful.

I unlocked it, I flashed it with the .img file, and then I installed the .zip file. I felt like I was a CIA agent doing it all, too B-) ;-P

However the two applications I'd like to use, which require root, still say I don't have root.

Here is what Root Checker says:

    DSCI0982.JPG

    Standard location system/bin/su
This file exists, and I executed it from the shell via command prompt from my PC. Nothing happens though...
the shell command line is "root@android: # " which apparently indicates root...

    Standard location system/xbin/su
This file exists, and actually it seems to be identical to the first?!

    Alternative location sbin/su
This folder exists, but the folder is empty.
What should I set my chmod to on this folder to not deny access? Should I copy the su file into this folder?

    Alternativ location system/xbin/sudo
Yep, this file doesn't exist... Where do I get it from?

Root user id and group id status
Anything I can do about that?

Any help and advise is much appreciated!! :-)
