I'm not a fan of Apple iDevices... but the whole point of this is that it runs at the same time as Android. A chroot jail install is similar to a virtual machine that outputs its display to a VNC client. So theoretically you could run iOS apps along with Android.

Are you freaking kinding me? You really think I would put that on my beautiful Xoom? When Hell Freezes Over.

Sorry guys... For me all I care about it getting it working for two reasons... to say I did it, and to say that the Xoom could do it. Theoretically you can run any ARM based OS (A lot of linux distros, BBOS, WebOS, Windows CE, Windows 8)
Sorry I "infected" the Xoom with a impure OS... and thanks for the hate.

Be nice guys, the OP's just sharing a new development to us, and to hate on it isn't cool. Sure we all have our misgivings about Apple, but the fact that he was nearly able to accomplish this gives us yet another feather in our cap, one that Apple can't claim running Android on an iPad.
That being said nice job Apeman!

It is nothing against you. All I am saying is if I wanted an iOS device I would have bought one. Sorry if you felt that was towards you.

Personally, I thought this line was pretty cool:
"A chroot jail install is similar to a virtual machine that outputs its display to a VNC client. So theoretically you could run iOS apps along with Android."
I dont think he is really saying that iOS should be the native OS as much as that it can be run in the background and support running iOS apps. Thats what I took from it at least, and if thats true, I think thats pretty cool. Unfortunately, there will be some apps that will never make their way to Android, and running the iOS version would be pretty cool. Netflix and Pandora (for us Wi-Fi users) come to mind right away even though they will make it eventually.
In the end, its all good development as psychotic_penguin said, so why would anyone hate on another developer in the community? I think this is some great work and just anothing thing that the Xoom does.
Xoom Wifi - Rooted with Launchpad, OCd to 1.6Ghz with Droid Overclock.
