Rooting after OTA

Okay probably a stupid question and possibly already answered but I could not find it.......... does anyone know if we can root after the OTA update? If so is the process the same? I reason I ask is because I updated this morning and while it was doing its thing I noticed it said that it was updating the bootloader.

Okay just to be super clear I believe you are talking about the 3.1 update to the Android OS.

Whether you were previously rooted or not, if you are at 3.1 you should wait for an upcoming kernel. Rumor has it that it won't be much longer.

Yes I did mean after the 3.1 update. Sorry wasn't clearer. I have procrastinated rooting partly because I wanted to learn the xoom more. Silly me for trying to follow what we tell noobs on other forums. I got the update this morning and afterward thought oh crap I want to root. Oh well I will wait.

Yea there is a way to root. I'm going to try and get a guide up in the next few weeks.

Worst case scenario, couldn't you just flash back to HRI66 since you're going to wipe your device anyways? I mean, that way you could flash 3.1. And have SD support. It would be an awful lot of work of course. Probably not worth it?

I can't say for sure if you can. The only issue I could for see is the different bootloader. Im sure you would be fine to SBF, just not sure about flashing system images. You should be ok, I'm just not sure yet.

That being said, there is a way to root 3.1. Ill try and put a guide, if anyone needs a link in the meantime let me know.

Are you unlocked? That will wipe and it would be the first thing I would do. Do you have the android sdk installed?

I have not some anything yet because I don't want to end up with a brick. So I guess I will wait to see what comes out now that the OTA seems to be out to everyone. I am sure more folks are gonna want to root now that the 3.1 update is out and they see what they don't have.
