Been tossing around rooting mine and this might be the kick in the pants I need to make the jump. I don't know why I was so hesitant. I had my Droid rooted in less than a week. But my Xoom just makes me nervous. Maybe it's the adb method because I'm used to the whole RSDLite method on my phone.

I know how you feel. I was born into simplicity with z4root for my Droid x. Seeing that I have to unlock the boot loader and all that stuff makes me nervous about the xoom. But as long as you follow instructions perfectly I'm sure everything will be fine.

Hey imagine how I felt, I guinea pigged this one. It's cake, just follow the instruction and if something goes sideways, the gents here will walk you through fixin' it. They got me there, anyone can do it.

    Same here.

Just follow their guide to a -T- and it will work.

    Ok, need some help guys.

I got the recovery installed and everything, but I keep getting the "Can't mount /sdcard" message when I go to root the device. Is there a way to maybe push the files on the SD card without the SD? The sd card reads as FAT32 when I connect it by USB to my computer but I cannot format it because I don't have an adapter with me to verify it is the correct format. (It's the 16 GB one with the OG Droid)

Or do I maybe not have the sd card plugged in correctly (where both HMJ37_HC3.1_Both_Models_BRDizzled.zip & bootloader_patch_3.1.zip are in the root of the card). I have the gold contacts facing the middle (board side) but it doesn't seem to click into place - just pushes back out again. So I put the cover back on hoping it would make contact. No deal. Held it in by hand - no deal. I'm not freaking out yet because I feel comfortable seeing the recovery screen on my OG Droid which is where I'm at with the Xoom. But I'd like to get it working some time tonight.

EDIT: Ok, I got the sdcard to "lock" into the slot. Pretty sure it didn't the last time.
    Entire screen reads as follows:
    -- Wiping data...
    Formatting /data...
    Formatting /cache...
    E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p9
    Formatting /sd-ext...
    Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure!
    Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
    Skipping format...
    Data wipe complete.
    E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
    E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
    E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
    E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

The microSD card doesn't click in and stay in by itself?

Yeah, the second time it did. For some weird reason it didn't the first time (or I thought it didn't).

On another note, I didn't see it in the instructions, but are one of the files sd card supposed to be renamed to update.zip like on many ROMs on the Droid using SPRecovery? Or is this a CW recovery version that can install ANY zip file?
