Stuck at "Starting RSD protocol support 3

    Hi all,

I am rooted stock 3.1 with the Tiamat kernel 1.4.4. my camera now keeps rebooting my device when I try to start the camera, so after some research I read that I should do a forced reset pressing the power up button at the same time as the power button. The trouble is that when I do the device seems to get stuck at Dual Core Screen with the message "Starting RSD protocol support 3." Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Steve

Can you get into your Xoom if you power up normally? I think the advice you were given in your research is flawed.

    Hi Ximmy!

Yeah, I can get into my Xoom if I power up normally. Also, when attempting to do the forced reset, (power up button + Power button) once it gets stuck at the "Starting RSD protocol support 3," I can then get out of it by briefly pressing the power up button again along with the Power button and boot up normally.

That said, when pressing the power up button along with the power button for a few seconds, should it be getting stuck as I have experienced? How am I suppose to be able to perform a soft reset?

    Thanks
    steve

It is working as designed actually. This is what you do if you want to access the bootloader directly. If you have CWM installed; this is one to boot into Recovery.

Your other problem will likely be resolved if you wipe the camera application cache from "Settings" | "Applications".

Oh. Thanks Ximmy it is good to hear that it is operating as designed.
So, are you saying that the way to do a soft reset is to boot into recovery mode through CWM and then reboot the device from there?

Not exactly... A soft reset is done by holding Power + Volume Up only when the Honeycomb OS has been fully loaded (i.e. the Xoom has already booted).

    Ximmy,

That is what I do with the Volume up and Power button after the Xoom is turned on and then I get the Starting RSD Protocal Support 3. Am I missing something?

It is only a soft reset once the Xoom has been booted up fully....

    This means:
    - You have gotten past the M logo screen
    - You have gotten past the boot animation
    - You are at the homescreen

Only then can you do a soft reset. If you hit Volume Up + Power before this, it will either be ignored or interpreted as a bootloader intervention.

Hope that helps clear things up.

So Ximmy, are you saying that if I press the volume up and Power button at the same time from the home screen, the device should then soft reset? If so, that is what I am doing when I get stuck at the Starting RSD protocol support 3. How long do I have to press the two buttons together? perhaps I am pressing them and holding them too long.

Let go of both buttons as soon as the Xoom shuts off. You should be good then.
