ROM question for rooted 3G Xoom owners

    Hi guys,

My 3G Xoom is rooted and currently running the Stock 3.1 Rom with the Tiamat 1.44. I know that the 3.2 OTA update was sent out for the WiFi Xooms, but is there a 3.2 version ROM available for rotted devices? If so, how do I update to it? Do I need to wipe? Finally, in your opinions, would it be worth updating to or should I wait for the official release of 3.2 for the 3G models and then wait for the development community to create a ROM based off of that one?

    Thanks
    Steve

There is a new rom for both wifi and 3g, it's called Manta Ray and it has a lot of nice features. Yes, you should do a wipe before installing it.

If your already rooted I'd say go for it. I did, and have no regrets.

What's the easiest way to backup everything and restore after wiping and installing the new ROM so that I can get back to where I was as fast as possible? Also, what kernels are you running with the Manta Ray

If you have Titanium Backup it works good, under menu>settings>privacy make sure Back up my data and automatic restore are checked so that after you log back in google will redownload all your paid and free apps from the market, all the rest will need to be restored from Titanium Backup. Manta Ray comes with the stock gpu Tiamat 2.0.0, I'm running the OC'ed GPU Tiamat 2.0.0.

You can use TiBU to backup your apps+data and then restore after flashing the new ROM. The ROM has the tiamat kernel and I believe there is also a launchpad kernel thats compatible.

Thanks everyone for all the info. According to all the responses wiping doesn't seem like such a big deal. Maybe it is just scary to me because so many say it it a pain in the butt. That said, if Titanium Backup restores everything back to where you were after a wipe, what is it that you all find to be the worst thing about having to wipe?

    Thanks!

If you purchase Titanium backup pro, you can use the batch restore function. Nothing painful at that point

should this be done IN ADDITION TO the google online backup, or IN LIEU OF? in other words, will conflicts occur if we do both? Is one preferable to the other? Thanks!

I would do both, google will only backup market apps, anything you sideloaded or got from somewhere else you will have to find them again if you don't do a Titanium backup. Also before you flash anything you need to do a backup in the CWM recovery just in case you end up with a boot loop or it all goes south. With a CWM backup it will restore your device exactly the way it was before you flashed.
