I really hate to ask what may seem to be a stupid question. I have searched the forums and not found the answer. I have seen a few posts that suggest creating a nandroid backup before unrooting to get the 3.2.1 update. I have experience rooting my OG, then my xoom and now my new Bionic. My xoom is rooted using stock 3.2. My questions is the nandroid backup is only for a "disaster situation" and not to be restored after re-rooting my xoom correct?

My logic would suggest that restoring the backup would take me right back to where I am now. Thanks for all the help too, I could not live right without all the droid community helping me break all the warranties I can get my hands on...

Yes, if you unroot and get 3.2.1, reroot you would not want to restore your nandroid after rerooting for as you said you would be right back where you started. Making a nandroid is usually done in case things go south. Solarnz has already unrooted, accepted the OTA and rerooted using his own Universal Xoom Root.

Ok, don't wanna sound like a noob, but... I did all it said on here, unlocked, flashed the recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img file, and installed the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file from the SD card.
My question is, is that all I needed to do? My Xoom is working perfectly but I was wondering if that's all I need to do to root it. Don't have to add any more files or flash anything else or whatever?

That's all this one needs. To check root get a terminal emulator from the market, free. Once installed type su (enter) and if it comes back # you are rooted.

Yea, I checked that root works. I can give SU to File Manager HD, and am able to write to an external SD card and USB thumb drive. So... guess I'm a new member in the Root Club.

Did you have any problem with this method? I've a member from Australia that couldn't get the recovery flashed. Also add your name to this thread and Steady will add you when he gets a chance.

Yea, it worked great except for step 3, where I had to flash the recovery a few times before it said it was in clockwork mod. But, other than that, no problems.

So how do I return to stock on a Verizon 3G model so that I can set myself up for this root method in the future?
SDcard System Image Backup Using ClockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.0.(RC4). Back yours up today!
