I used this recovery image :
    recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm

    from the thread here:
    file:///I:/Robs%20Documents/My%20Doc...20XOOM%20root/[Root]%20Universal%20Xoom%20Root%20-%20ANY%20XOOM%20ANY%20UPDATE.htm

I installed Team Rouge ROM and Gapps from here:
    [ROM] Unofficial CM9 (WiFi-Only & 4G LTE) (Updated 4/19/12)

Now I have rebooted and have the lovely cyanogenmod 9 boot animation but it seems to be taking quite a while...is this normal?

    Thanks

Depends on the number of apps. Did you do your wipes? Wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache and wipe data/factory reset? If not boot back into recovery and wipe the cache partition and dalvik cache and reboot. If you didn't do any of the wipes boot back to recovery do all your wipes, flash the rom, flash the gapps and reboot.

At first I was a little confused with post #1, I just kept typing "adb" at the cmd prompt and it just spits out the command line options for adb. After a minute or so of scratching my head, I figured it out. The actual process starts on step #3, steps #1 and #2 were just preparation - doh!

I think I'm rooted now! Thanks!

Yeah I fixed it but the great contributors and the "how to" writers of this forum helped us through this "daunting" rooting process. Looking back it was a sanp!
