    mp4 playback problem

I've put a couple of mp4 movies on my xoom that, regardless of what player used, wouldn't play right. They play like a slideshow with no sound. I have other mp4's that play fine. What am I doing wrong?

Were they converted to play in a Xoom format using something like DVD Catalyst? It seems if the source file was not properly converted for use on the Xoom it either wont play well or just wont work at all. I had a similar experience, only my mp4 would not play at all.

Yeah DVD Catalyst make it easy to format for the Xoom. You have several different profiles for the Xoom and many other devices as well. It is definitely worth the money and takes the headaches out of movie converting for the Xoom.

For MP4 files on the Xoom, the best player at the moment is the build-in one, or one that actually connects to the build-in video system, such as Act1, because they make use of the video hardware acceleration of the Xoom. Players like RockPlayer and vPlayer are capable of playing a lot more video formats, but are currently not yet optimized for the Xoom and thus don't make use of its full power, which results in stuttering playback or other issues.

If the files do not play in the build-in player or Gallery, the files are likely created using high-profile settings in your conversion tool, which the Xoom currently doesn't support. In this case, the files need to be converted to proper (baseline) settings.

Overall I wish this puppy had better video playback. The hardware is fast enough but they are short on codecs. Had to install several different apps just to get all my videos working.
I will die from happiness when VLC releases an Android player.

Search for the Baseline 3.1 profile for handbrake over in the XDA forums. It works very well in converting files and is pretty quick about it as well. Also, whatever you do, don't pick the mkv option for saving, even if the original is in mkv format. Your audio will bork. It might also be a good idea to consider zipping before transferring files over. I had one file give an error at the last second about not being playable and refuse to copy over :P Had to extract it manually, played without a hitch.

I also didn't have any issues with Rockplayer or Moboplayer. If a file is HW decodable they can handle it. For stuff that is only SW decodable but not HD they do a better job than the stock player. For HD material that's High Profile neither the stock nor any market players will make a difference, the HW just doesn't have the capabilities to render it.

I noticed that the reason most movie files don't play is that the HD video has a 6 channel audio... and the xoom can't play any part of the video. Just convert your video to have stereo audio instead of a 6 channel audio. Here is a video that work great and the program is free :-)

    Hello everyone!
I've been having the same problem with prey4war lately, and I can't really download Dvd Catalyst because I have a macbook. can I download something else that is like DVD Catalyst but for macs? please help, I already have the movie files on my macbook, all I need to do is get it onto the motorola xoom I have. I don't want to download more software like boot camp or parallels desktop so i can only put movies on, it's just to much work, and space.
