    Root Questions

1 - If you root, but dont install any themes or roms, are you still able to write to the sd card? plug in external hard drives? or do you need a rom to enable this?

2 - if a new update comes out, and you havent installed any themes or roms, can you just unroot and install the update?

3 - is there a one click root method?

4 - do you lose your apps when you root, and have to start from scratch (factory reset)?

    Thanks

    1. No, you will need a kernel to do that and right now there isn't one that I'm sure will work with 4G upgrade. Steady and TDR are working on one now.
    2. Yes, you should be able to unroot and install it and re root. We'll need a new Guide, which isn't written yet, for the 4G 3.2.2.
    3. There is but we recommend you don't use it as it has caused lots of bricks and it hasn't been updated since the Xoom came out. If you are on 3.2.2 or 3.2.1 there is only one guide, plus it will work on any Xoom
[Root] Universal Xoom Root - ANY XOOM ANY UPDATE

    4. Yes, when you unlock your Xoom will be wiped. You will be able to redownload all your paids apps when you sign back into your account.

so say i install a kernel so i can have write access, etc (btw, im not on a 4g, i have the wifi version), when an update comes out, do i just unroot and update, or do i need to flash back to the original xoom kernel?

Was'nt sure if you were 3G/4G or WiFi. After the 4G upgarde there have been problems with them flashing kernels and roms. If you want to flash a Rom, Moray 2.2.2 is pretty nice and already has a kernel that you can do like you want with. And since you're going to get wiped when you unlock one more won't hurt before you reinstall all of your apps. Before you go any further, what vs. OS are you currently on?

If you are on 3.2.1, Universal Root is the only one.
