Is There a Permanent Fix for Mobil Browsing Issue (Non-Root)?

Is there a permanent fix yet for permanently changing the default Xoom browser to desktop mode, without rooting?

I've had the Xoom since the day of its release, and have been waiting impatiently for this. I am sick and tired of having to open certain pages in one browser, others in another, and having to go through the time and trouble of about:debug. If there isn't a fix yet, I am going to have to officially conclude that the Xoom is a huge disappointment (my opinion).

    To preempt a few comments:

    1. I know I can use an alternate browser (I use Dolphin HD). However, the default browser has certain features that I haven't been able to find in other browsers (specifically, keeping the tabs on top visible at all times). I would be interested to know if there are any better browsers out there that have this feature.

    2. I know about about:debug.

    3. I do not want to root.

    Thanks!

You do know that this is an issue with the OS and not specific to the xoom right? And actually since the last couple of updates most sites now open in the full site ujt of course some still do open as a mobile site. The fix would be nice though, i have to agree with you on that.

I use Opera Mobile, and it has a setting for the UA. You have the option of Tablet or Desktop. It remembers that stting. I don't have to keep going back in to reset it & I am getting the regular versions of websites.

I do know that, but I don't care. I purchased the Xoom, and browsing the web on it is too much of a pain in the ass - that's all that matters to me.

Does it stay on it permanently, or do you have to do it every time you restart the browser, reboot, etc.?

If this is a OS problem as stated above maybe we can hope it's better on Android 4.0? We can always hope!

Unless Google provides say a PC chrome version then this will never change. The tablet is classified as a mobile device aka a phone. Until that changes then even using debug doesn't provide a true web browser.

here is how it works: once you go into debug mode and set it it will show desktop when you look but when you close the browser it goes out of debug mode so it doesnt read it. So if you make a shortcut for about:debug and save it you can enter ab and that shortcut will show up first in line in the list then just tap it and you will be in debug mode. The comma nd toggles the mode. You can also tell you are in debug mode by tapping on the settings button in the top right corner and there ill be extra items in the list.

There will be an option to set the browser to desktop browsing in ICS. "To get the most out of web content, you can now request full desktop versions of web sites, rather than their mobile versions. You can set your preference for web sites separately for each browser tab." via Android - Introducing Ice Cream Sandwich
