    Question regarding SIM Card

I have a xoom 10" Wifi version, well, at least I think I do. It has a SIM card slot on top of it(together with the micro SD card reader). What is it for? Can you really insert a SIM card into it and make phone call or surf internet? Provided the SIM card has data connection enabled? If the answer is yes, does it only take Verizon or it takes any SIM card?

Nope just an empty shell. There's no cellular radios in the xoom. Just don't drop your SD card in there or its a mess to get out.

I think we need to confirm robinqi1 does indeed have a WiFi Xoom or a Xoom 3G with no SIM in it before we rule out him having a SIM slot!

If it says Verizon on the upper right it's 3G/4G.

    If not it's WiFi.

I definitely don't have that verizon logo, so it must be a wifi version. Got it used so didn't know ...

OK, I really like to get my xoom on a mobile network(not wifi), but since I am just a poor guy, can't afford expensive monthly plan, what would you guys say the options that I have?

So far it looks like T-Mobile's mobile plan is the cheapest, $10 monthly after voice discount(200MB 4G, after that speed slows down), Only I don't know if the usb stick is compatible with my xoom or not?

You're going to need something like this.
    T-mobile Prepaid 4G Hotspot - Walmart.com
What phone do you have on T-Mobile? Mine has a WiFi HotSpot built in.

I have stinky AT&T for the time being, looking to switch though.

Don't you have to pay $15 extra for the hotspot? I was told you can root your android phone and then turn it into a hotspot without paying extra? Something called Barnacle. Anyone has already done that?

there have been plenty of posts here regarding cell phone "hot spots" and teathering. you can find loads of good info suing the search function. the good news is that you don't have to root your XOOM to take advantage of teathering now.

I don't have the plan my phone is just able to be a hotspot and T-Mobile hasn't said a word about it.
