    Stopping Apps from automatically launching?

When I turn on my Xoom, and in a few seconds check the Task Manager, there's a whole list of apps that are apparently open and running, which I did not launch or even use in days. How do I stop this from happening and using up resources? Thanks.

Are you truly powering down between uses? The default behavior is to toggle sleep on and off with a power button press. Press and hold to turn off or on.

It sounds like you're just really putting the xoom to sleep. So the app list isn't cleared like it would be with a power cycle. Those apps aren't really resident in RAM or CPU cycles, more like cached for quick access to things you've been doing. You really don't have to worry about it unless you have some instability or battery issues. Cut the Rope was a program that caused battery life problems for some reason I don't really understand. I ended up deleting it and haven't had battery life problems since.

Android manages it's resources well and Task Managers are not needed. When the system need resources it closes the older ones automatically.

I had this question when I got my first Android. I even loaded a task killer and set some things to auto. but it caused more instability than it was worth and as ggrant3876 pointed out, the Android system does a great job of managing itself. At least Honeycomb and later do. Not so sure about the earlier versions. Also, that list doesn't actually mean it is running, only that it was used recently. I had to learn that this is not Windows and works more effectivly in the apps area.

Earlier ones I had to use a task killer starting with 1.0, cupcake, donut, eclair, froyo and gingerbread. But honeycomb and ICS I haven't had any problems, it just keeps getting better and better.
