    Rooting help.

    Hello.

I am asking for help right from the off it seems.

Following astrix's instructions for universal root etc have stopped at the first cmd section. What am i meant to input?

    I says:

    cd C:\SDK_tools

    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot oem unlock
    fastboot reboot

Right ok...but do i put each line in seperately and 'enter' after each line or one long sentence or what?

    Help appreciated.

Right yeh I sussed that (i know its basic but hey) anyway I think i'm rooted....i got a bit confused because i didnt realise the two astrix methods (i.e rooting and cwm and flashing sort of crossed over each other. I am fairly sure i'm rooted ok. How do tell? Guess from the 'about tablet' tab...whihc now says GAS-EMEA-UCAH and so and so?

It also says build number is H.6.6-23.

So i assume i now go from here:

Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed:
    - Reboot your device by holding Volume
    Up + Power.
    - Then 3 seconds after you see the "Motorola logo", hit Volume Down.

You should now see "Android Recovery" at the top left corner.

    - Hit Volume
    Up to boot/enter into recovery.

    In "Android Recovery",
    - wipe cache,
    - wipe factory data,
    - go to advance and wipe dalvik cache all within the recovery.

    Once Done

Navigate to "install zip from sdcard"
    - "Choose zip from sdcard",
    - then select the Custom ICS.zip file that you had downloaded/placed in External MicroSDcard earlier and flash it
    -
then select the Gapps and flash it
    - Reboot and Enjoy!

I was confused by the overlap between 1 and 2 but I think i acn now clear caches and flash to wingray etc?

    Does this sound correct?

Ok i'm deffo rooted. Checked with root access app. I am now questioning whether cwm has taken though.

I my kernel in about tablet it says: 2.6.36.3-00042-g3c1a41ea7301c@il93inxdroid47 #1

Does this sound wrong...should it not say Timat etc...?

If so I presume I have to go back to:

Open command prompt in Windows Start icon (in search textfield type in cmd and press enter)
    Once command prompt pop up,type:

    cd C:\SDK_tools
    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img

Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed:
    - Reboot your device by holding Volume
    Up + Power.
    - Then 3 seconds after you see the "Motorola logo", hit Volume Down.

You should now see "Android Recovery" at the top left corner.

    - Hit Volume
    Up to boot/enter into recovery.

    In "Android Recovery",
    - wipe cache,
    - wipe factory data,
    - go to advance and wipe dalvik cache all within the recovery.

    Once Done

    - then select the Custom ICS.zip file that you had downloaded/placed in External MicroSDcard earlier and flash it
    -
then select the Gapps and flash it
    - Reboot and Enjoy!

Although surely Ive done that before I chose the zip from sd card to flash universal root. Again bit confused with the crossover of the two sets of action.

Anyway thanks for the reply...I am slowly getting there.

No, just rooting won't change your kernel version. You will need to flash the appropriate ICS rom and gapps.

Thanks..so what is the purpose of the cwm inputs like this:

    cd C:\SDK_tools
    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img

And what is the purpose of clock work mod anyway. Can I tell I did this correctly or does it not matter?

Given this all though I assume I can go ahead and flash the wingray as in the last segments.

Anyway once again thanks for coming back...you must get annoyed with having to do it over an over. Cheers.

CWM is your custom recovery, without it and root you can't flash any custom roms.

I think i have tried to flash cwm before I rooted. Does this matter or should I just go through the install cwm and flash custom rom section again?

    Ta.

    Ta.
You should have flashed CWM first before flashing the root.zip. Press and hold the power button and the volume up button together until the xoom starts to reboot, when the screen starts to change start tapping the volume down button until you see android recovery in the upper left of your screen, tap the volume up button to enter the android recovery. If you get the android with the exclamation mark you don't have CWM yet. If you have CWM it will look similar to this.
