Ahh, forgot about the GED being only US. In the US, the WIFI-only Xoom is currently at 4.0.4 (ICS). I know in the US if you get a new Xoom at 3.2 (Honeycomb) it would upgrade immediately to 4.0. I don't know what the normal update schedule would be in Australia. I think a lot of people OUS flash US ROMs just to get updated faster. Again, a hard decision....

Wow, how many threads do you have going today!?.... I posted some info in the the other thread: Wanting some advice, FAST!

And regarding your question above, I have a wifi Xoom (Canada) and without very much trouble converted it to a US GED wifi Xoom, I got ICS when it was released and the latest ICS update when it was pushed out in the US... If you eventually buy the Xoom, here is a proven process to move to ICS 4.0.4 in a stock configuration... Updating to 3.2 from 3.0.1 for a non US user

The Xoom's day is past, though still a capable tablet. No reason to spend the money for a new one in the current market. The currently available Xoom descendants aren't particularly special in my opinion either.

The primary complaint Acer has suffered in reviews is a lackluster screen. I've not heard anything about their newer tablets though.

Acer is a competent company, with a decent reputation. Based on a netbook of theirs I own, I would certainly consider their wares for mainstream products. If you're an enthusiast user, then I think you'll do better with some of the other brands like Asus.

I am optimistic with Acer's new offering and while the first one didn't have a great screen, it was far from being horrible. However while the initial entry was ok, it did have some solid features even it wasn't the sleekest out there. The new one sounds promising as well as sleeker than the Xoom we all know and love. The first generation didn't make many modifications to the Android OS either but the few that they did were great. It sounds like they are keeping to this philosophy with the A510 and the extra battery capacity will come in handy.

I love my Xoom, went back to unrooted! There are still a few things that are just a crap shoot when it comes to Android and support and Verizon and some apps, but I have been happy with it since Day ONE! I also have a IPad which If you want simple and easy, that's the way to go! It all depends on what you are gonna do with it!
