Talking New UK user to Xoom / android and more than a little confused - help!

    Hi,

I have had my Xoom for a couple of weeks and everything seemed to be going just fine.

I am a recent convert from Apple OS to android so still finding my way around.

Over the last couple of days, when trying to access the android market by clicking on the market app icon I have a message at the bottom of the homepage stating, 'Application is not installed.'

How come - it was, and I've used it to download many apps?

Also, when I access the app store via the 'Apps' button top right of the homescreen and then the 'Shop' button top right of the next screen it takes me to 'Google Play'.

Is this the new android market?

Coincidentally, my paid for version of DrawSome no longer works.

If I uninstall it and re-download it, will I have to pay for it again or will the app store know that I have paid for it once one this device or not?

Finally, how do I know if my device is running the lastest version of software?

I know that's a lot of questions - thanks in advance for any advise you can give me.

    Mark.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to join us. If you're clicking on the Market icon it has been updated to the Play Store. Just delete the old icon from your screen and place the Play store there. If you've paid for an app you can uninstall it a reinstall it with out paying again.

    Hi Grant & Astrix,

Prior to purchasing Xoom I checked out this forum and what I found was a big part of the decision to buy.

You guys have just proved me right!

Many thanks for taking the time out to respond to my rookie questions!

I have binned the market icon and replaced it with the play icon and have deleted and re-installed DrawSome.

And it now works - v.happy!

    Many thanks again.

    Best wishes,

    Mark.

Go to settings>about tablet>touch system updates>check. Usually updates will be given to you and you will be notified in the lower right bar. You can check manually through settings.

Oh, did you know you can use the Amazon AppStore, too?
    Amazon.com: Appstore for Android

They are currently giving a free paid app every day.

I think you are referring to a bookmark? In the stock browser, just tap and hold and it will bring up a menu to delete it.

Often if an app stops working, you can go into Settings/Apps and clear the cache and/or data to get it working again before reinstalling. AFAIK, you can load the same apps for all your Android devices attached to the same Google account--though I only have the Xoom so I cannot verify.
