Researching Xoom - Need some help and info

I'm in the research mode about the Xoom and know very little. Could someone answer some simple questions for me?

    1. I read about contracts (with Verizon for example) and wondering if any kind of wireless contract is required to use the Xoom or is that just with the Xoom 35?

    2. What is the difference between Xoom and Xoom 2?

    3. Where is the best place to buy a Xoom?

    4. Does anyone know about a website offering a Xoom for $224.99 called One WB at this address:
    Motorola Xoom 10inch Android 3.0 WiFi-Only Tablet - NVIDIA Tegra 2 Processor, WiFi b/g/n, Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), 10hr Battery, Dual-Cameras, Over the Air Download Android 3.2 [TGDC15097] - US$224.99 : One WB Store

Thanks so much. From what I've read today, the Xoom looks like the alternative to a laptop that I have been looking for.
    Ken

    1. I have a wifi only so no help here.
    2. The Xoom 2 is an upgrade from the OG Xoom. If you're into hacking I'd go the the OG Xoom as there's no development on the Xoom 2.
    3. The place you find it the cheapest.
    4. That's good price but have never heard of the site.

A data plan is not required to use any Xoom. He just meant his model is wifi only not the wifi/3g/4g version.

I would look at both Xoom and Xoom 2 and decide what fits you best. As was said already though, the OG Xoom has a better development community.

Just keep shopping for best price, I have never heard of that site either.

I mean it doesn't have a 3G/4G radio, if I need data away from home I just tether it to my phone.

    1. No. For WiFi only Xooms it is irrelevant, for 3/4G Xooms you don't have to activate the cell. Beyond that, I'd suggest contacting Verizon.
    2. I don't recall off the top of my head. IIRC, Xoom 2 allows USB charging, has 16 GB or 32GB models. There are any number of websites reviewing the specs. It's not a big difference, and many OG Xoom owners don't consider it enough of a change to move.
    3. What Grant said.
    4. I would be wary of that site if it were my money. Never heard of it, and my favorite place to check up on e-tailers has nothing on it (resellerratings. com). It appears to be a Chinese direct wholesaler. I personally would not buy from them, but that's just me. Too many times with popular electronics devices you see "too good to be true" prices at obscure sites & it turns out they were too good to be true.

No, I didn't and I would suggest you not either. I could not find much of anything about this website, but after doing some research, I did find some who had tried to order from this site and they had a bad experience - took the order and his money, delayed shipment and then he never got what he paid for. That was enough to run me off! So beware!
