Verizon Kills Voice plans and comes up with new data plans that fit for tablets etc
Verixon announced that it is going to kill voice plans, making them all you can use, and will basically be charging by the amount of data you use. Up to 10 devices on a plan will share the data package. Sounds like it might be good since they will also allow you to tether without extra charges. Might take a genius to figure out if it is cheaper than what you have now though IMHO. But have to see how it shakes out. here is a link to the story:

Sounds interesting. While I have the Wifi Xoom, I've resisted cell phones every step of the way (finally got one only a few years ago & still on a dumbphone). I'm looking at the S III for when upgrade time rolls around. This might help convince me.

I thought that too initially but i have 4 smart phones and a tablet on a family share plan an no one is using all of the data so i think with some careful montoring and a big enough plan it will end up cheaper. Have to see how it looks when they release it. I have seen a couple of conflicting stories about how it will work today. But generally, these changes have always meant an increase in the past.

Yeah i see. Hopefully they have a plan that covers that. I thought i read initially there would be a 'dumb' phone plan and a 1gb plan for a tablet but we'll have to wait and see i guess. If they don't do that i think they will lose a lot of subscribers

It appears they do. I went through the calculator & you have the option of adding dumbphones, smartphones, tablets, and hotspot devices. Right now I'm on a family plan with 2 dumbphones. Looking at getting at least one smartphone at the end of the year. For me it looks like this will be cheaper for me; I am certainly interested.

Well it is NOT good for me and the millions of JUST PHONE users. I currently have 2 "dumbphones", NO texting, No Data package and I pay $90. Under the new plan, even if I stay with the "dumbphones" my bill will go up to $110 and if I make the jump to the smartphone it will be $130.
For the person that said at&t all the way, read the article, AT&T won't be far behind on this same way of doing plans.
Let's face it, they are no longer cell phones, they are computer gadgets that happen to let you make a phone call. People are talking less and less.
I can understand the "Data" package but come on $40 a month just for access with a smartphone!?!? How about a flat $10 for each device no matter what it is, that would make my bill cheaper, or even $20, that would make my bill the same. We are approaching that, "Hey whatcha gonna do" fork in the road.

Not sure I am following your pricing. The article says: "A very basic $40-per-month plan will remain in place for users of "dumb" phones who don’t consume any data. But other than that, it’s the $90 data plan and up." so it looks like you would get the 40 per month per phone? But it is still early. I have heard a couple of different plans and they may just grandfather what you have too. I can't imagine that they will just change everyone at once. Not even sure they can do that since you have a contract with them.
