    Cancelled 4G Service, Now What?

Hi guys, i cancelled the verizon 4g service on my Xoom, no need for it since I mostly use it at home.

What does this mean regarding getting software updates? Do I get wifi updates directly from Google?

    Thanks guys

yep, you dont need mobile connection to get updates, you just now cant connect to internet/or apps that require internet outside of your home network.

if you want to use maps, youll need to cache

personally, i dunno if i would have canceled, i am month to month, and can just turn it off without being billed at any time, and then if there is a time i should ever need my mobile connection, i just turn it back on for the month. its good'to know its there if i need it, and i can reenable without activation charge/fees

    Thanks rive!

I only tried maps on the go once with the Xoom, and it was slower than my Bionic, so that won't be an issue.

I understand ya rive just tired of giving Verizon my money, have had the service since april/may of last year, and they have gotten over $220 and its just enough. Plus I hate the delays on the software updates.

I was told (and i tried it out) that I can pop in my verizon 4g simm into the tablet and itll work if i need it for emergency situation.

if i had a bionic and Xoom, i would have done it this way

termimated voice/data plan on bionic, went month to month on Xoom for 2gb/$30

turned on Xoom hotspot, connected Bionic, then obtained free phone number from Google, installed grooveip and google voice app on bionic

at 1mb/min that alot cheaper than the voice plan, and you would have had data/voice on the bionic and xoom for $30/month

but ya, you can switch the SIM out.

Wouldnt that require for me to carry Xoom or have wifi available at all times for Bionic to work?

you would have to have Xoom and bionic near for the phone to work away from wifi home/public hotspot network ya, but the xoom has a free tethering/hotspot, so you would have had 4g/wifi anywhere.
it could be set to switch over to home wifi at home, and Xoom tether when not at home

the only advantage is cost- epecially considering VZN's new share plans at $100 +
