Xoom 4G LTE Modem Not Needed - What to do with it??

    All,
I am a new Xoom owner, having recently purchased a 4G LTE refurb from DailySteals via eBay. I do not have Verizon cellular service, and have zero need for 4G compatibility. I removed the 4G modem as soon as I received it to cut down on idle battery usage, which it has definitely done. I have searched eBay, and I did not see any used 4G Xoom modems for sale. My question is, are these things still sought after, and if so, what would be a fair price for someone to pay for one?

    Thanks,

    -RB

I may think about holding onto that 4g lte card, that is if you plan to upgrade via ota updates?
If you are rooted using custom roms, then i see no problem selling
The value of the modem maybe very limited as the 4g lte xoom has a different boot file or what ever its called comparing to a non upgraded 3G xoom.
I believe before the modem will work within a 3G xoom, that special boot needs to be updated as well.

Glad you found removing the card saves huge on battery life.
Aging, two days after my 50th b-day i find an AARP membership card in the mailbox, wife laughed until i showed her that she also receives a free membership with mine

Put it on ebay? Or I would cive you 20 bucks considering the difficulty of self-installing it.

RE: Moto Xoom 4G LTE radio

considering the demand from those who missed the lte upgrade, and the ease of installation of the pcie card, and self upgrade, this lte radio has demand. you could get more than $20. Personally, i wouldnt let it go for less than $60, and you may even get more than that on ebay, or the (Motorola Xoom 3G, 4G LTE or WIFI forums)https://forums.motorola.com/hives/9a5441a7f6/posts

When Moto was allowing upgrades (before the radio was no longer available, and supplies still existed) they charged $60 for the LTE radio/software upgrade for those who missed the lte upgrade window. that should give you some idea of its value now considering the scarcity of the part.

This is a hard to get peice of hardware that was only available through Verizon/Moto for a short time, and necessary for enabling 4g lte from verizon on the 3g verizon branded moto xoom

since no one can get this LTE radio pci card short of spending $100+ dollars to buy a used/damaged/parts only LTE Xoom, Id say its worth a pretty penny to those who are stuck with a 3G Xoom, and want to upgrade to mobile speeds that are 10 times faster than 3G.

All you need is a star/torx driver (buy anywhere for less than $10), and here is the necessary software for lte xoom self upgrading:Parts To Convert Xoom 3G to 4G

for what? if you want the LTE radio, contact the OP for his. He is probably taking BO (best offer)

moto is no longer doing the lte upgrade even if you pay now as the verizon supply of lte radios is depleted (they were for a short while doing it for $60 while left over upgrade lte radios lasted), and verizon never did it- they just provided the lte radios/SIM cards to moto, and you went through moto for it. Verizon will not provide you with an lte radio. as for the Verizon SIM card, you can still get that from a Verizon wireless store (I already had my SIM replaced, and there is no fee for the card), its free (if you already have an account with them), as for the rest, asuming you can get a Xoom 4G lte modem/ radio pci board, and want to self upgrade the link to software is provided in post (see link above for 'parts to convert Xoom 3G to 4G')
