What can you do with a brick?

So, it happened. My Xoom is now stuck on the Motorola logo and all I have tried (even factory reset) has not worked. Can this device be rooted in its current state to save this from becoming an expensive brick?

    Thanks in advance!

Is your Xoom recognized when you plug it in to your PC? What exactly where you doing when this happened?

Well, right now I can do nothing. It lost power after sitting on the boot screen all day. I'm trying to get a full charge on it, but seem to be having difficulty. Do Xooms just die like that? I have had it since Oct 2011 and it has been used every day - 32gb WiFi version.

Could be a bad charger, that's a known issue on the OG Xoom.

may also be a bad battery (if it dies rather quickly after charging, or wont hold a charge)

have you tried simply holding volume up and power in at same time for 10 -30 sec? (while on ac power)

Sorry for the delay. Long weekend. It does seem to be charging now and will wait for a full charge.
So, if the computer does recognize it, then what?
If on the flip side, it does not, what to do in that case?
I have tried soft and hard resetting, and all the power button volume combos. Have gotten into fast boot and recovery mode, did a factory rest to no avail. It just stays on the M logo.

Also, I needed a tablet since I do keep my homily notes on it and had to preach this weekend, so I went and got a Nexus 7 to tide me over. The smaller screen takes a little getting used to, but all-in-all, not a bad device! Better sound than I thought it would have to listen to podcasts and music.

Any help on the Xoom would be appreciated because the larger screen would be nice to have back again. Thanks,

Do you have a SD card installed? Some people have success taking it out and doing a soft or hard reset.

that seemed to work for me in the past. can't explain why, but it did. there are several posts on the subject if you want to learn a bit more about trying it and some of the results others have had.
