if screen remains black/unresponsive proceed to next

    2. then try to connect it via usb to pc see if files are accessable (be sure to have moto drivers installed) hold power and volume up till M logo

    if Xoom not detected, try:

    3. get a $5 mini hdmi cable, connect it to a hdmi enabled tv. keep it plugged in ac, set tv to proper hdmi selection, hold xoom volume up and power buttons at same time for 15 seconds.

    4. try sdk_tools and fastboot options this will resolve whether Xoom actually boots/powers on, and allows factory data reset to fix software corruption boot issues if they exist
    (see Xoom Software Downloads)

    use command:

    5. report finding back for further troubleshooting. this will test battery failure issues/and screen issues/booting and motherboard issues

note- ac power bypassses battery issues
    note- hdmi bypassses screen issues
Dropped my wi-fi only xoom the other day. Since then it won't power up. It takes a charge (I see the light go from white to green).

Tried all of the above, to no avail.

Even brought it to a local repair place for free evaluation (ubreakifix.com). They couldn't figure it out. Motorola wants $199+tax to fix.

    Any other tips?

Do you have an SD card in place? Could have got dislodged when you dropped it. Try taking it out and power it up.

Thanks for the reply. I just removed the SD card and tried to power it on. No luck. Tried soft reboot as well. Nada.

Did you try Vol+ and power? Hold them down until it starts? Try holding up to a minute.

Make sure and put the Xoom on the charger and let it charge until the charge indicator turns green and then for 30 more minutes and then try a soft reboot.

Tried all combinations of holding power key and vol+ and vol- keys. No good.

Will try this although I believe I did this when it first happened. Failing this, any other thoughts?

So you did try to output the display HDMI (#3 in rive's comments above)? The fall may have worked the screen cable loose. At least if you had this data, you could take it back to the repair shop if you didn't want to take it apart yourself.

Yes tried that. Nothing. I don't believe it's powering up because it doesn't get warm like when it's running.

Also, I brought it to a local repair place and they say they opened it up and did not see anything wrong.

Tried taking it apart myself but my #5 torx screwdriver sucks and feels like I'm stripping the head of the screw.

Charged until the green light and left it on the charger for over an hour more. Tried soft reboot while still plugged in and it did not work. Also tried after removing from charger and still no good.

Do you remember how it fell? Pretty hard? Smack on the back, on the side with the power button, etc.? No damage to the outside? There is a "how to open/take apart" page somewhere and maybe you could see what circuitry is near the impact point. I don't know if I'd spend anymore time or money on it unless you have important info on it. I've seen the Xoom+4GLTE for $179 refurb if you are interested in that. Or maybe you just want to move on.

Edit: You might try posting here at the official Moto support forum. The mods apparently have ability to contact/consult with service reps to determine if user fixable or not. Worth a shot.
