Buying a used Xoom 3g/4g - anything to look out for?

If I am buying a used 3g/4g xoom is there anything to look out for? I was looking for a wifi only but this 3g one just popped up but I don't want to be stuck in a contract. If the tablet was already activated in a contract can I just use it as a wifi only?

Someone selling a used Xoom already? Dang, it is only been out two months. I guess it is either stolen or not.

Get the serial number MEID from them and check with VZW to see if the number is stolen or burned. If it is, it is no google for 3G and can only use as WIFI.

Make sure it is not unlocked or tamper with.

The guy says it hasn't been used but I have my doubts that's why I am asking. What do you think a used 3g model should sell for?

i came across a couple of guys on one of these forum got the 3G XOOM at the price of the WIFI...

Like smilepak said, Get the MEID number by .. Settings, About Tablet, then Status .. write down the MEID number and call Verizon to see if it was stolen or not. If it was and you bought it, at sometime could get traced back to you and you could be blamed ?? I just wouldn't take the chance. And, if it was stolen, it needs to go back to the rightful owner.

As for a price, you might try looking at ebay. You can get an idea of how much it's worth, and how much others are willing to pay for it.

I agree. Check and make sure that the 'owner' is the owner and it has been freed properly. What you may have gotten is a 3G Xoom. 3G Xooms will work under WiFi, however, under the law, you can be in trouble for receiving stolen goods unless you make an effort to do 'due diligence' to prove that it is not stolen or misplaced property.

Receiving stolen goods, knowingly or unknowingly is usually punished equally.

I pick one up used a few weeks back and its fine. 670 for the 3g version

i bought my 3g used from a friend. he only had it for a few days, he's one of these guys that will buy something the day its released, play with it for a few days, then return it. i just saved him the hassle of returning it. he called VZW and cancelled his 3g before he sold it to me. he also did a factory reset, so it was fresh as a daisy when i got it (and he threw in the portfolio case too!).
