Perhaps I need to be more specific regarding my original ? -- when I tapped on the Android Books icon a message pops up stating "Application is not installed" - is there a way to get this application installed...... Any help appreciated..
Maybe goto the App store and search for 'Books'. Install the app.
I use Moon Reader https://market.android.com/details?i...ft.moonreaderp instead. The Books app is only good for books you download from the Google bookstore.
I had this issue with my Xoom as well. When I went to the android market with my PC my Xoom would be greyed out when I went to install google books. If you search for google books in the market on the Xoom google books does not pop up. However, google books shows up on the Xoom, but as "not installed".
To get around this I googled "google books .apk" and installed the .apk linked in xda. I used es file explorer (obtainable on the market) to install the .apk for google books.
To install a .apk you pretty much drag and drop it to your xoom while it is plugged into your PC. Then browse to where you dropped it using es file explorer, long tap, and select install.
Hopefully this was helpful.![]()

If you have had a problem with the missing YouTube and/or Google Books applications, we have a workaround you can try.
- Connect to WiFi network. (So far it looks like only WiFi Xooms have had this issue. Let me know if you have this on a Verizon Xoom.)
- Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
- Go to the "All" tab and then scroll down and select "Google Partner Setup."
- Clear Data.
- Reboot your Xoom. (That is, turn it off and on.)
If this doesn't work, perform a factory reset (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset) and try the sequence above again.
Please let me know how if this works for you.
