    Question Xoom Encryption

    Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has enabled the device encryption on the Xoom. I didn't realize it even had it until the instructions for the 4G upgrade came out. I'd like to do it on mine, but if it's going to take a huge performance hit or cause some other issue I may wait until after I get the 4G upgrade done.

    Thanks ahead of time....

No idea but my Windows box is fully encrypted and it is not too much slower at all. I do not have too much personal stuff on my Xoom and my passwords are all encrypted with 1Password and shared on Dropbox.

Do it and let us know

I encrypted mine Saturday. The entire process took about an hour, and you have to have it powered the entire time. I haven't noticed any performance hit at all...but I haven't really been taxing the Xoom all that much.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I've been wondering about this... After you encrypt it, can you remove the PIN unlock? As in, have it prompt you for your pin after powering on, but not after each time you turn the screen on?

I doubt you can remove the PIN unlock since it's required for the encryption to be enabled. FEATURE REQUEST!

Anyway, I encrypted mine earlier this morning, so far no issues, but I haven't used it much yet today.

If I encrypt the Xoom, will I simply have to enter a pin at power up or every time the screen wakes up? I don't want the latter. Also, the 4GE upgrade talks about optional encrypting *and* a factory reset. If you have to wipe all the data to achieve the security that they suggest, then what's the point? Finally, will encrypting the Xoom affect anything on my Motorola Droid (where I share some of the same apps that sync with various internet sites and services)? Thanks.

I figured I would ask here since the thread exists already... who is encrypting their xoom? I am considering it, but I am curious about how it works once encrypted. Any insights would be cool.

Encrypted. No slow down. The lock screen is annoying though. Not sure if wiping is worth the pain so I can get rid of it.

Right, I forgot about that.. so if I encrypt and I want to go back I have to wipe the xoom?

What's annoying about the lock screen? Is it much different than just having a password?

    Thanks!

Well whatever your password or pin is you have to type it in every time you wake the xoom up. I wake it up a lot and it got tedious so I just wiped my xoom. Half hour and my xoom was unencrypted and all 20gb of data was back in it.
