Thinking of Sell my Xoom for Iconia A500
Hi all,
I know may be it is a madness, but I'm thinking to sell my Xoom ( I got mine 10 days back ) and purchase a new Acer Iconia A500.
I know the Xoom is very good Tab , and wonderful material, and I know Acer is not that good quality ...
But in fact, the main thing for me is the ports....
Acer Iconia A500 have 2 ports for USB , on slave mini USB and one HOST FULL SIZE USB ...plus the SD card, all working out of the box...
I already have OTG cable and using it with my Xoonm to connect the camera and USB devices, but not memory card yet.. I know may be it will come.. but I don't know when , plus the Full Size Usb giving freedom...
one more thing... the position of the USB in Iconia is very good ( SIDE) but in Xoom it is in bottom( or upper if I flipped it) means I can' stand my xoom while I'm conecting any usb device.!!!! but Iconia does.
What do you think Guys.... I really Like Xoom ... but the USB is my priority.
Will my trade be worth??

Moving to general discussion

I hear you and don't know if this will change your mind but this is what I did...
[HOW TO] - Connect Multiple USB Devices At Once
Plenty Of USB ports now. Works for me and shows you the nearly limitless potential of these tablets. NOW, I get ports AND updates first as a Xoom owner.

If USB is truly a priority, why not a net book? Tablet-wise the Xoom is the clear winner. Should be an interesting discussion. :-)
Keep on Xoomin'

Waiting for the latest software will be the issue with any tablet other than the Xoom. As epakrat poster above posted, with an otg cable you have enough usb's. If the cosmetic placement of the Xoom's USB is your reason then do it. I modded the standard dock to have an otg cable and I now have all the USB functionality I could want. And with root my Xoom has read everything I have thrown at it.
Being a Xoom owner has already gotten me an invite to Google beta and its been updated twice already. I don't think Acer will beat that.
I'm the type that needs the latest software now! After seeing how other manufacturers update their devices, I've decided a "Pure Google Experience" is the only way to go. As soon as Google announces an update to the OS I can bet I'll get it within the week.

But I'm talking about reading the flash memory and hard disks?? your method to expand the USB ports, but what is the use if I can't read the pen drive?

But don't forget some times you need to get some data from some one when you are outside... Just plug and go .!!

I'm totally agree with you... But Are you sure rooted device can read Hard drives and SD support... and if that is OK , can we uroot...
Why. Unroot ??? because I'm afraid from Google to stop OTA updates to rooted Xoom , as they stopped Movies yesterday to Rooted devices....
I'm really afraid to brike my Device.. I'm lost in many methods and topics.. if some one help me with and clear advice .. may be I will root , if there will not be harm for future with google software updates.

I believe this is possible already if you unlock, root and flash an alternative kernel but I can't test it because I'm still stock. If you're stock, a yet to be released official patch to enable the SD card should be upon us soon. However, I imagine it'll also enable USB mass storage like many other Android OS iterations have had before v3. So, you'll likely be able to plug in that pen drive, etc either way. Right now, I'm encouraged by the fact that my 120GB USB HDD lights up even though there's no way to mount it yet on a stock xoom just yet. So, I'm going to wait it out but I understand if you don't.

Yes im sure it will read both.
Yes you can unroot.
Its already known if you root you will not get an ota. As a rooted user I will be able to load a rooted version of the newest ota within 72 hrs, most times sooner. There were people waiting over a week for 3.1 to propogate to their devices. It took me 5 days to get 3.0.1 ota. I wasn't to happy.
I cannot give clear advice because I don't know what you need. Go to development section in this forum and read, then ask specific questions.
Edit: Its a bit harder to mount hard drives. Here's an intro http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1020174
