    ROMs

    - Backup device
    - SD card support
    - USB hosting to just about everything (need otg cable (the cable is not included with root))
    - Allows me to install ROOT apps (3 of the top ten grossing apps)
    - Clockworkmod Recovery
    - Customizations to the framework that allows me to change the look of my Xoom
    - Themes
    - Two ROMs
    - Bootanimations
    - Screen shots
    - Quicker update to the newest software (got tired of waiting for ota)

If you just use your device to consume content root isn't that beneficial. If you want more control and understanding of your device then it may be something you should do further research on and decide if its for you.

And lastly why not? Its mine. I paid a lot of money for it. For me it was an easy process that gave me more applications to play with and "things to do" with my Xoom. And no I don't have much of a life and prefer it that way. Its a cheap way to sink some time. Its my MMO. And this forum.

i rooted my droid x andjust got rid of it. i found out that keeping it stock kept it a lot more stable and it was fast enough. I dont know much about the custom ROMs or anything so that could be my problem. I would love to root my xoom but i dont want it to be unstable and crash like my droid did.

I have a rooted DroidX and love it. If you got rid of it due to instability I wouldn't root the Xoom. There is an amount of troubleshooting that can arise from rooting. If you aren't up to doing that troubleshooting then root may be a waste of time.

I rooted my Xoom, and only installed a theme. But didn't go the ROM route yet, mainly because I'm waiting to install a ROM until after the source code comes out. I have not had 1 instance of instability on it yet. I've gone from 11,000 to 16,000 on the overclock scale and been great across the board.

I've had some minimal stability issues on my Droid with various ROMs but nothing I couldn't deal with.
