    How to hardwire a zoom?

Hi - I travel to locations that do not always have access to 3G / 4G or wireless (WIFI) access in the hotel rooms. Bummer, I know.

Anyway, is there a way to hardwire the Xoom to the internet (ethernet) in the room? If there is an "adapter/dongle" that I can plug in - that's great. Problem solved -- but I haven't seen one?

Alternate option 1: Can I use the USB connection of my laptop (connected via the ethernet cable) and connect *through* the laptop?

Alternate option 2: Can I use the Laptops BT connection as a hotspot and connect to the internet? (think my company locks out the BT connection so it may not be an option).

I currently carry a Fujitsu "Lifebook" specifically to connect to Skype, but I have a *dongle* that I use. I really don't want to carry both + my work laptop.

Thanks Droid-Xer. The BT option is great if I have phone service.....

What about foreign countries where I don't have phone service?

Ahh. If you dont have phone service then there's no way to do it. You can only tether your phones BT and 3G. You could always get a data plan from VZW, but I'm sure there are roaming charges.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

To OP, if you're lucky you could turn your laptop (Windows 7) into a WiFi HotSpot using your ethernet connection.

Intel has this functionality in their newer WiFi drivers. It is called Intel MyWiFi, Intel® My WiFi Technology

Additionally, Windows 7 has the feature built-in if MyWiFi is not an option. However, you must have compatible hardware/drivers. Do a google search for "Windows 7 WiFi hotspot" for more information.

Thanks RuinerNIN - but we're still on XP .... so that won't work either.

I guess I'll have to carry both devices when I travel to overseas locations that don't have VZW and/or WIFI service - at least until Motorola comes out with a dongle (if ever) with which I can use to connect to an ethernet cable .

Here is a thought and I do not know if this will work. Turn on Internet Sharing. I think if you can connect via BT that might work but I am not sure since I do not have XP any longer and cannot test. Maybe someone can test this...

You cannot pick up a wireless signal from your laptop since the Xoom can't pick up ad-hoc.
