how much are tablets really worth
knowing the touchpad isn't a android, its still a tablet. how much should these tablets overall really sell for? 200, at the most 250. one thing to thank the fail of hp's tablet for. these tablets are way over priced for this economy. of course no one can keep up with tech. once again thanks hp for showing us the real price of tablets overall.

Had they entered the market at the 250 to 300 dollar range, they'd probably have posted iPadesque sales numbers to begin with. Pricing a new product on par with the market leader is rarely a good idea. (Didn't do much for the Xoom sales either.) Just my 2¢.

Ifixit tears them all down and figures out what they are worth.

Not sure if HP showed us anything in the tablet space..... A tablet that lives for 3 months doesn't exactly speak volumes on any front.
Keep on Xoomin'

It showed that you can move massive numbers of dual core tablets quickly for $100-150 anyhow.

You can argue all you want about spec, usefulness, and intrinsic value, etc. The bottom line - a tablet's value is what a willing buyer will pay for it. And every Xoom owner in this forum paid what they were prepared to pay. If you paid, say, $500, then you were prepared to do so, and had every right to choose NOT to buy it.
Millions have paid the "going rate" for the various forms of the iPad. Many less, but 100's of thousands have bought a Xoom. - ditto - for the other Android competitors.
It doesn't matter what the intrinsic value is - say, cost of parts plus manufacturing costs. It's worth what buyers will pay. TouchPad is now heavily discounted NOT because the tablet's "true colors" are being shown, but because it's a discontinued product likely getting no support. Only a relatively small portion of the population will be interested in that. And it doesn't make other tablets worth the same, nor does it force other manufacturers to drop their prices to match the deep discounts on the TouchPad.

Your right of course, but I think you might be underestimating the amount of public interest in the Touchpad at the new price point.

Fair point, but I don't think I am. I am aware there is great interest but a lot of it, I am sure, is the "sale" syndrome, just the same that drives buyers at the Department Store Sales to count how much they have saved, not what they have spent or even whether they wanted what they bought
Just another opinion . . it's what makes the world go round

My theory (not worth much
) is that a lot of these are being sold to folks who have been lusting after an iPad since the first one was released and didn't have $500 to spend on a non needed tech purchase. There has been a lot of talk recently that the tablet market had reached the saturation point, and almost everyone who wanted one and was willing to pay for one, already had one. I think the firesale shows that while the 500 plus dollar tablet market may be saturated, there is/was still plenty of market at the low end.
