[HOW TO] Enable ad-hoc Wi-Fi connection

    THIS IS FOR HONEYCOMB ONLY

You must be unlocked and rooted to use this hack

Tested on my VZW 3G XOOM and confirmed working on Wi-Fi only XOOM (thanks dvan)

We will be replacing the WPA-supplicant file on your XOOM to enable it to see and connect to ad-hoc networks. Credit for the WPA-supplicant file goes to kelvie at XDA and aldo to mr_wrong_0 for the idea to use Root Explorer.

*This can all be done from the XOOM*

Here's an easy install zip now. Credit to Mr_wrong_0.

    1. Download on your xoom -> wpa-supplicant
    2. Move to your external SD
    3. Boot into clockwork
    4. Install zip from SD card
    5. Reboot

    Manual Method

    1. Download Root Explorer HERE
    2. Download modified WPA-supplicant file HERE
    3. Turn off Wi-Fi or just turn on Airplane mode
    4. Unzip/extract WPA-supplicant file using Root Explorer by navigating to "Download" folder and long press zip file and select extract (file will now be in /sdcard/extracted)
    5. Press back arrow twice to get to root screen of Root Explorer
    6. Go to /system/bin, select "Mount R/W" at the top, and then long press "wpa_supplicant", select "Rename", and add ".bak" to the file name.
    7. Press back arrow twice and go to "Extracted" folder
    8. Select /wpa_supplicant/system/bin
    9. Long press "wpa_supplicant" file and select "Copy"
    10. Press back arrow 4 times
    11. Select /system/bin and select "Paste"
    12. You will see a "wpa_supplicant file" and "wpa_supplicant.bak" file
    13. Long press "wpa_supplicant"
    14. Select "Permissions" and change them so that they read:

    15. Select "OK" and you're all finished.

    Nice! Just did this.

The directions got a bit confusing there for a bit in the following areas:

    7. Press back arrow twice and go to "Extracted" folder <-- "extracted" folder by default went to /sdcard/extracted
    8. Open "wpa_supplicant_xoom_wifi_adhoc", open "system", open "bin". <-- full path to this was /sdcard/extracted/downloadfile/system/bin, might be confused with the /system/bin; also once in the folder, the file was simply called "wpa_supplicant" as noted in step 9.

I know, a lot of handholding there, but thought I'd point it out.
