    SUMMARY

**Before you get started, make sure the USB Debugging option is enabled in the Settings. Go to Settings --> Applications --> Development -->USB Debugging**

SET UP ADB (this section added by fish1552 for ease of use)
We'll usethe steps posted by Droid-Xer to set up EasYADB here.

    Download -> EasyADB
Ensure USB Debugging is on. Settings > apps > development

    1. Download the EasyADB zip
    2. Extract the files
    3. Copy SDK Tools folder
    4. Navigate to C: drive
    5. Paste SDK Tools folder on root of C: drive
    6. Open command prompt in Windows Start icon (Start > Run > type in cmd and press enter)
    7. In command prompt type in
    Code:
    cd C:\SDK_tools
    8. cd C:\SDK_tools is your path. Now enter:
    Code:
    adb.exe
    9. ADB will execute and start
    10. Connect XOOM via USB and wait for drivers to install. If not then install these Drivers
    11. Type in:
    Code:
    adb devices
    12. Daemon will start and your XOOM should now be recognized. An alphanumeric string will denote the presence of your device.

    PROCEDURE

    1. Download and unzip files. Place rootboot.img, superuser.apk & su binary in the same place you will open your command window.
    2. Open command window:
    3. Type; adb devices - you should see a long serial number on the screen. If no serial number appears, recheck your adb, sdk & moto usb driver files. If you cannot connect to your Xoom, check out the suggestions in this thread.++ Also, if ADB returns a serial number, followed by an "offline", you need to check to see if you are using the OEM cable. If so, check with another cable and see if it then shows online.++
    4. Type; adb reboot bootloader
    5. Type; fastboot oem unlock - and follow the steps on your xoom's screen (You have to accept the terms by pressing the volume down key, and then select 'accept' by pressing the volume up key.)
    6. Allow the xoom to boot up completely and go back into settings and enable USB debugging again.
    7. In the command window on your PC type; adb reboot bootloader - (if xoom does not respond, disconnect from pc and reboot manually by holding vol up + power. then reconnect after fully rebooted)
    8. Type; fastboot flash boot rootboot.img (for WiFi)
    9. OR Type; fastboot flash boot 3Grootboot.img (for 3G Verizon)
    10. Type; fastboot reboot
    11. Allow the xoom to boot completely - your xoom should be in normal operating mode for the remainder of the process.
    12. In the command window on your PC type; adb remount
    13. Type; adb push su /system/bin
    14. Type; adb shell
    15. Type; ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su (this line starts with lower case "L", like llama)
    16. Type; chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
    17. Type; exit
    18. Type; adb push Superuser.apk /system/app

Thats it...you're done!! Unplug the Xoom and reboot. Your Xoom is stock rooted. You can now flash ClockworkMod, other kernels and ROMs. To verify root, download a root user app from the market (like Root Explorer, Titanium Backup**, etc.) and run it. You should be prompted to allow superuser permissions.
**One additional note: This guide does not include the note to install "busybox installer" from the market. This program is needed to run some of the root actions on the system. Please make sure you download and install the installer to your device and run it before installing Titanium Backup. (This will prevent any issues with Titanium Backup settings.)

    Mac Only Procedure
You will need fastboot for mac - download HERE

      1. Open a terminal (located in the utilities folder)
      2. Navigate to your sdk/platform-tools folder
      3. Type; ./adb devices - (look for the xoom serial number to show its connected.)
      4. Type; ./adb reboot bootloader
      5. Type; chmod 755 fastboot
      6. Type; ./fastboot oem unlock
      7. Type; adb reboot bootloader
      8. Type; ./fastboot flash boot rootboot.img
      9. Type; ./fastboot reboot
      10. Type; ./adb remount
      11. Type; ./adb push su /system/bin
      12. Type; ./adb shell
      13. Type; chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
      14. Type; exit
      15. Type; ./adb push Superuser.apk /system/app

Disconnect and reboot xoom. Download a root app and test.

***Note: If you stop by and something does not seem to be very clear to you, please contact myself or one of the other staff members on the forums and give us feedback on what sounds confusing. That way, we can update the guide and maybe explain things in a better way or offer alternatives. Just because something sounds good to us, does not mean it will seem the same to everyone else. We try our best to break things down for you but are more than happy to rethink things. But we need your help to make it better.

Anyone willing to make a video of this? I would feel better about trying this if I saw some one doing it.

It'd be a rather dull video...

All credit for this guide goes to jase33, I only copied it over here and modified 2 of the links to route to XoomForums links.

This is what I used to root mine and was utterly easy as long as all the steps on the summary are done and working. Then I just copied and pasted the steps on the procedure on to the command window (only the green).

I have an idea in the works that would maybe make it a bit easier for people to do. Not a video, because while I see the advantages of it from when I rooted my Droid, as long as you follow each step one by one, and ask questions if you get hung up, the guide is very in depth and detailed.
