Mediaserver draining my battery

Battery use is showing Mediaserver draining a big chunk of my battery. Any idea what could be starting this service?

Yeah I have noticed this too, lately it has consumed as much as 80% of the power over a 2 day period!

Does anybody has some info on this service?

Can it be turned off or suspended/set to only come on when needed?

I have found some additional information, it would appear that this service catalogs incoming audio and video and therefore is an integral part of the system...

But, there have been reports that if it runs up against a corrupt file is can get stuck on that file and continues to run depleating the battery very quickly.
