Question Xoom won't turn on after update

    Hi,

I've had a Xoom tablet for a couple months now. It was working perfectly until a few days ago.

    What happened:
    1) I turned it on and it asked to do an update (it was a "system update" - sorry, no idea which one exactly).
    2) It did something (it printed something along the lines of "bootloader updated successfully").
    3) It went into the boot screen after the update and it stayed there for a long, long time, so I put it down and went away to do something else.
    4) When I came back for it, it was dead.

It won't turn on pressing the power button, nor power + volume up, nor power + volume down. I have recharged it to make sure its not just out of battery, the battery LED works correctly (white then green). Connecting to a computer's USB does nothing.

Any ideas you can provide are much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.Glad you decided to join us. After you're sure the Xoom has a full charge press and hold the power button and the volume up button for several seconds. Some times it take quite a while for the Xoom to soft reboot. If you are rooted and accepted the update you will need to get into recovery and clean all your caches and that should fix it.

I don't think it is rooted; at least, I didn't do it.

Hi ggrant3876, thanks for the welcome. I held the volume up + power button for a full minute, and nothing... Except for the power LED, it looks dead.

If the soft reboot didn't work, I think you should contact Motorola for either a repair or replacement.

There's been quite a few that were successful with it but every once in a while this happens.

just a suggestion, as it has worked for me in the past (maybe just lucky, but i'm not complaining), i got my system to restart (after repeated reboots (volume up/power held to restart)), by removing the sd card right after i started the reboot. if you have an sd card, try pulling it out right after pushing the buttons for the reboot. you might have the same luck as i did. (btw, after getting it restarted, i haven't had any additional problem getting it to kick over each time i power it up). just a suggestion with the hopes it might help you out before sending it back. mine is a 3.2 rooted xoom.
