Still 'bricked'?
I'm a newbie to the Xoom but have reasonable experience with computers .....
After reading the threads describing 'frozen' devices, I can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
MZ604 model wasn't used for a few days and when started yesterday, I couldn't get past the ' M - Dual Core ' screen. I can't start up OR shut down.
The unit was originally Honeycomb 3.0 but was upgraded a few months ago to 3.2. The charger appears to function normally.
I've tried endless soft boots and also have used Android recovery twice to try factory settings (when I could eventually get to that option). In both cases, the system reported many 'File Missing' reports. Most times, the message "Starting Fastboot protocal support" appears but doesn't progress.
When using a USB connection, a driver loads but has no real effect as Windows doesn't 'see' the Xoom, so I assume it's doesn't handshake to initialize.
Since I have no outside connectivity, I'm unable to apply resources that might overwrite OS components.
Battery has been left to drain but to no avail.
Any help is sincerely appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave in London

Did you try a factory reset from the stock recovery? Just keep tapping the volume down button until android recovery appears on the upper left of your screen. I'd wipe the cache partition first and then reboot, if that doesn't work I'd do the factory data reset. Make sure your Xoom is fully charged, the charge indicator needs to turn green for at least 30 minutes before you try.
1. Turn tablet off. You may need to use two hands in this process to press and hold buttons properly. Since your tablet won't turn off just use the soft reboot to get started.
2. Turn on the tablet with power button, wait a full 2 seconds from the time the tablet starts showing the red Motorola logo, then press and hold the down Volume key. (you should not hold down the power button after it turns on and logo appears)
3. "Android Recovery" will appear on top of screen if timing is done correctly. Release volume button. (if you continue to press volume down at that message, the message will cycle through "RSD, Fastboot, and back to Android Recovery. Make sure message states Android Recovery before you go to next step). If stuck at a RSD protocol or Fast boot screen, reboot the tablet by holding power button then pressing the volume up).
4. While screen states "Android Recovery", Press volume up button, the screen will say "Entering Android recovery mode" and a few seconds later an Android robot graphic will appear alone on the screen. Release buttons.
5. Hold down power button and then press the volume up key together to see the Android Recovery screen menu selections.
6. Use the volume buttons to move up and down through selection in this menu.
7. Using the volume down button, scroll down to “Wipe data/factory reset”
8. Tap Power hard key to select option.
9. Scroll down to select “Yes, delete all user data”.
10. Tap the power button to select. Wiping and formatting data will take a few minutes.
11. You will return back to the Android recovery screen menu.
12. Tap the Power button to "Reboot system now" which will power-cycle tablet and eventually power back on to the Initial Set-up / Welcome screen present when you first turned on your tablet.

Thanks for the suggestion (and routine) but I had tried that previously (twice in fact) using the same script so I suspect this was you're instruction set before. I can't 'turn the device off' as instructed as the power button is unresponsive the normal sense of the word.
It does appear to wipe the cache and do a low level format of some sort but not being an Android OS expert, I'm not sure if all is being cleared out either.
The re-boot does occur but am back to the original start-up screen that probably appears during the same kind of sequence that Windows would use as an 'ini' file. (in this case prior to seeking a wi-fi connection icon)
Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks - Dave

I believe you already try all the possibility
But if still cannot bring up, I would try to flash the Official Stock Images. It will be as "Out Of The Box" state.

Thanks - I'll try that out this afternoon.

After the 5th hard reset to restore factory settings, I can finally gain control and access the system.
Now ... to rebuild everything that was erased ....
(I didn't 'root' the system ... I need to learn about that soon.)
Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm glad it finally decided to cooperate with you.

A day later .... same issue .... as described before resulting in a non-responsive device during a boot.
HOWEVER, when getting ready to try the factory reset' again, I noticed the holder for my external Micro SD card was 'out' just the smallest amount.
After reseating this, it boots properly. (I couldn't see this before as the Xoom is in a leather case.)
IF this is the final resolution, this may be a quick check as the OS would result in a loop during the initialization process of a start-up.

I've heard of Xooms booting normally after the sdcard was removed not just reseated. Play with it a bit and keep us informed.
