USB Cable on Windows 7 & Wifi transfer app

I recently purchased a used Motorola Xoom 4G, yesterday it upgraded itself to ICS 4.04. Eveything else is stock.

    My issues
    1) When I attempt to connect the Motorola USB cable to my Windows 7 laptop , I see “usb device not recognized".
I’ve downloaded/installed the Motorola Device Manager 2.2.17., tired the USB debug mode, etc. Can’t get it to work

    2) I can't seem to find a Wifi /ftp Android app that can see the data on my SD Card. All the apps seem to think the main 32 gig of memory is an SD card?

The total command app lists my SD card as SD-Card (2), mnt/external1.
The main 32 gig is shown as mnt/sdcard ?

Download and install USBdeview to your PC, run the .exe and delete all of your Xoom drivers. Download and install the Motorola Xoom usb drivers, once finished unplug the Xoom, reboot the PC, replug the Xoom and see how it goes.

I am basically having the same problems as the initial poster and tried the same things... I was able to connect the Xoom to my Win7sp1 computer prior to the ICS upgrade. After ICS, when I connect it, Windows tries to install the driver but then says it's unsuccessful. Anyone else having this problem?

P.S. I did not try using USBdeview because I was able to uninstall the driver files/device from Device Manager, so I didn't see the point.

If you uninstalled the drivers, did you reinstall the new drivers?

Without using USBdeview you might still have some of the old drivers hanging around.

The 'Motorola' cable I had must have been bad. Purchased another 'Motorola' cable and it worked the first time ! Thanks for all the suggestions. Learned some new things !

I tried the above steps, but got the same result. When I plug the Xoom in, Windows tries to install drivers then says the installation failed. When I pluged the Xoom into my work PC (WinXP) today, it recognized instantly, no drivers were even installed. This makes me wonder if the USB cable I am using has gone bad... I'll try the one from work tomorrow and report my results.

Edit: Amazingly... it was the cable. When I switched cables my home PC instantly recognized the Xoom.

It's recommended that you use the cable that came with the Xoom.
